People in the game don't call him out cos the footy world is a small place and these guys all know each other ...

He's there to keep you up - nothing else. if he manages that he will have done the job asked of him. Whether that will get him the gig for next year is another question.

Don't be surprised if it's a relegation battle ALL season - which side you come out of it I have no idea - any more than Moyes does!

Is a manager on a short term contract going to be trusted to spend serious money in the January transfer window?

In the same vein as long term he is not the answer, and the only positive step forward he will possibly bring would be to tighten up the defence and get the team playing with some sort of shape and game plan.

I have heard the term 'laughing stock' bandied about regarding us, mostly from our own fans. I tell you what though...turn up with 'moyes out' banners and start booing and it will be the fans that will have turned us into a laughing stock more so than the owners/manager/exmanager/players.
Couldn't agree more. I'm not behind the appointment in any way, but now he's in I'll support the team as normal.

I also agree that if there are any banners or booing etc. before he's been given a chance, it's the fans that are the laughing stock. COYI.

He won't get any money to spend. The challenge is to keep them up with the current squad.

Black Cats fans wishing him all the best, though ...

Moyes will have us fitter, more competitive and hopefully more solid across the park...especially at the back. I welcome his appointment, and hope he is very successful while managing us.

So when Moyes "fails" as virtually all previous West Ham managers have, what will be the excuses then? As I said in my article, it's resources that count, NOT managers. Logically, if that were NOT the case, then how do you explain the fact that the footballing "genius" Avram Grant led Chelsea to the Champions League final but apparently this "genius" deserted us resulting in our subsequent relegation? We have to change the fetishising culture within the game whereby everything is regarded as the fault or worthy of praise of the manager and instead accept that it is largely a figurehead role just like the Chief Executive of a multinational company. Here's my piece:

If you'd seen how bad we've been for the last 50 games you'd realise that's not going to be hard.

Well at least Moyes is saying the right things:-

To be fair he really needs to be successful with us otherwise he’s surely finished as a manager.

The fact that he's made a very very big thing about players putting the running in and attitude etc makes me think he's got to know about certain players already...

Let’s hope so. If so it bodes well for him and us.

Sorry, but I`m going into stereotypical Hammers Ideas Above Their Station Deluded fan mode.

David Moyes? FMOB.

Massive kneejerk, who hasn't got a job?, managerial merry~go~round, next cab off the block appointment that will result in us playing Leeds next season.

I hope I'm wrong.

COYI.

When I think about hammers players putting the effort in, Arnautovic isn't one of them it's safe to say ...

Yup...hence my previous post about getting us more competitive. He doesn't need to do that purely through training...dropping a few who aren't 'pulling their weight' will help massively.

As for knowing about certain players...spot on, obvious which ones when you see us play...
