It doesn’t help when your opposition are being given goals by the ref.
We’ll call it quits with the pen not given for Keita. Games like that won’t shape your season though, thought Anderson did wellRichB said:

I know its early days but is it time for Obiang to step into Nobes shoes? Midfield just feels so light at the moment in the middle, we never got that top drawer defensive midfielder we needed.
Midfield was light and everyone seemed to run out of steam. It’s as if the players were tired or didn’t really care. Liverpool were obviously better than us but that was an awful performance, where was the commitment?bad company said:

Can't see MP dropping Nobes this early in the season though - our opening fixtures through Aug & Sept are going to be very tricky so it'll be interesting to see reaction on Sat - Bournemouth won't be an easy game at all.

We'd lost that game the moment the fixture's drawn - one league win there since 1966 & losing the last four games against them (four goals scored per game) is pathetic; regardless of their squad, ambition etc.

How many of our team had played for WH at Liverpool before. Why should they be affected by previous poor results there?Conceding last second goals yet again is especially fking annoying & needs to be coached out asap.

I didn’t expect much from this fixture but I did expect the players to look like they wanted it. Antonio, Fabianski and perhaps Anderson earned their money. Dreadful performance imo.
Yes I agree, I am a little past the excuse that we shipped 4 last few games there so expect to ship another 4 this time. Many other teams will go to Anfield this season and only let in 1 or 2 why can we not be one of those? Last season Palace only let in 1, so did Burnley. Newcastle only let in 2, Stoke got a 0-0. So on and so forth. To let in 4 in each of the last 4 games is becoming inexcusable.
I do fear for our position in 4 or 5 weeks though, could easily see us losing to Arsenal, Chelsea and Man Utd - so important we get wins against Bournemouth and Everton and scrap for what we can in the other games. Played 6 and just 1-2 points with a large negative goal difference would get the media whipped up into a frenzy...

I'll happily play the top teams away early and get them done, we played the CL losing finalist who have spent not far of our 90 mill spend on just a goalkeeper.
Yes he could have parked the bus but I've no doubt he was looking far more long term at who had the brains to be able to implement his style of play and tactics in the heat of battle. I'd say he learned a hell of a lot very early, including the fact that Arthur doesn't actually have any brains whatsoever and that Ant only seems to want to play when it suits him.
A couple of decent home performances in between the tough aways and we'll be well set up to win more than we lose throughout the season against the teams in the 7-20 league positions.
Its way too early to be worried, the time to judge will be after 20 games or so.

Not many & I agree it shouldn't make any difference but it does as we always lose there. I didn’t expect much from this fixture but I did expect the players to look like they wanted it. Antonio, Fabianski and perhaps Anderson earned their money. Dreadful performance imo.
I wasn't expecting to get anything from the game, but the manner of the defeat was extremely poor, again.

56 is quite far off 90 to be fair
(There are 9 of add-ons but we have to win leagues and CLs so let’s call it 56)
Ok, so lets say you spent 170 million to our 90 odd, finished 33 points ahead of us last year with a goal difference of... 66 better than ours. The gulf was/still is enormous, that's why I'm not surprised.(There are 9 of add-ons but we have to win leagues and CLs so let’s call it 56)
By that reckoning every team in the league except those outside the top 3 will expect to go there and ship 4 goals or more each game? I agree that we would be very lucky to get anything out of it but the manner of almost inevitability in the psyche of the players of getting a humping was disappointing. Watching them terrified of playing the ball, receiving possession etc. Its like they had lost the game heavily in their heads before they already walked on the pitch. Dare I say it for games like that having someone like Noble in the team doesn't help as he is used to going up there and being humped...

So Martinez is out on loan again this season, I really dont think he has a future at West Ham unfortunately. Off to some second tier spanish side.
In brighter news, Xande Silva hit a hattrick against Spurs last night for the U23s - looks a promising acquisition.
He managed that hattrick in 10 mins or so which is pretty impressive. In brighter news, Xande Silva hit a hattrick against Spurs last night for the U23s - looks a promising acquisition.
Martinez is still only 21 so maybe some future - always looked OK when I've seen him, although his strike rate from the his previous loan spells has been crap.
