I’d say that Fabianski and Rice earned their money today. None of the others.

Girl that completed her pass of an overpriced bottle of lager to me did OK as well.

Well given that Fredericks is out injured once again and Zaba by his own admission is on his last legs, shouldnt we be drafting in Johnson to give him a run at a time when we have little to lose (we aren't getting 7th nor deserve it). He had a good game against Man City and looks physically/mentally up to the challenge.

Bit of sick note Fredericks.

Isn't Johnson still injured?

Zaba was ste (as were all but two others) on Sat.

Hadn't realised that our game v. Chelski's now on Monday. Won't make the outcome any less st though.

Zaba has said in the press if he plays two more games this season it activates an automatic contract extension. But has also said he cannot continue playing at the rate he is at the moment, so in effect will be paying a sizable salary to a 35 year old who can only play half the seasons matches...seems like another great deal WHU have managed there. I get he is an experienced head, but we cannot be paying large salaries to players who cannot play half the season, thats why we are dumping AC!

Sounds a standard WHU type deal. Presumably the extension will be for two years at £150k PW rolleyes

Suspect then we'll see him v. Leics & maybe as a sub in the last home game v. S'hmpton.

In fairness he has been good for us particularly last year when we were st.

Pedant mode on... he's actually (surprisingly) played in over 37% of our matches this season so far... less than 11% from KO though.

Weighed in with one goal so far (1.7% of goals scored) biggrin

True but he hasn’t done much good for us for a long time now. I was previously a big fan of AC, when on song he was almost unplayable. We haven’t seen that form from him for a very long time now.

Yes that article popped up a few days ago - either way we are in a win win scenario. They have tied him down to a long term contract and he is not making any noises about leaving, so anyone who does come in will be paying big money. I watched a Sky Sports debate the other day about him and they priced him at £60m but to be honest that would be the least we would be taking for him I think closer to £80m for a future England mainstay in probably the most important position in the modern game the holding midfield position.

Regarding Carroll - I used to be his biggest fan but, unfortunately, the way he has pissed his talent up the wall when recovering from injuries has made me lose any respect/sympathy for him. Look at Harry Kane to see what could have been.

Regarding Rice - I hope we don't sell him, we always sell our best talent, if we are ever going to build ourselves in to a top club we can't keep doing it.

I know I am going to get shot down for this but I struggle to see us ever holding on to top talent. Unless we do a Man City and have some overly rich benefactor come in and buy a championship winning team we will always hover outside. Look at Leicester, they won the league and still couldn't hold on to all their best players.

I think you are right, also look at Spurs new stadium vs the Olympic stadium. I know the rivalry on here is all a bit fun but it's far better by the looks of it.

Sadly, I agree with both of you. Also, it pains me to say this, but I haven't looked forward to a match quite as much as Spurs away, that stadium is a masterpiece.

I don't take great pleasure in saying that by the way! I think we are historically a team that relies on a 'talisman' rather than having strength in depth across the team (which probably plays its part in the inconsistency we have) but we are not a team that seems to be able to build a strong squad to challenge the top 6. I am concerned that the big spend is over and we will probably spend £30m-£40m tops this summer which isn't enough to cover the shortfalls we have at fullback, up front, centre mid.

...and on that I see more reports online this morning that we are really going after Medel, a 31 year old guy who turned us down previously. Lets hope that isn't the marque signing of the summer!
