City or United, looks like the title is Manchester bound this season.

Think I'll divert my interest to Bake Off.

Everyone wink

Sadly i make him right too.

The fixtures have been kind to both Manchester clubs though with none of them having played anyone decent yet.

Minimum of 15 games before it becomes clear who the challengers really are IMO.

Yes i do agree, but it's been an impressive start by both the Manchester clubs.

We can only beat the teams that we're playing, but only 5 games in and City had a 100% record at this point last year. We've improved significantly, others significantly worse. Interestingly, Chelsea are in an identical position, yet one of their plastic fans has already thrown the towel in.

Way too early to draw any definitive conclusions. I'm happy with our performances and goal scoring and defence.

What a hit! Tony V take a bow lad, my seats are directly in line with his shot...as it left his boot I was up celebrating!! Unbelievable goal! As for the rest of the performance...probably 6/7 out of 10. We let Everton back into it a little after the break as we couldn't get Matic back in to the game, when he re-established himself we were a different proposition. Lukaku's shot in the first half would have settled us down if it had gone in. But I'll take a 4-0 performance any day of the week. Still very early days but this is a different team and different mentality to last year and the year before. Much stronger in all departments. Was brilliant seeing Rooney running around. He was Everton's best player for me by a country mile. He got a great reception and roundly applauded when he went off. Despite his off field problems it's great it doesn't seem to affect his on field performance.

Looking forward to watching Tony V's goal over and over again tonight on MOTD2. thumbup

I ageee entirely.

One thing stands out for me: last season, we were battering teams 0-0 and 1-1; this season, we're coming out of reasonably close games with 4-0 to us... That's progress!

Weird isn't it? I don't see the performances so far this season as being much better really, but the results certainly are! It's just been that slight change in personnel, an increase in confidence and more clinical finishing that's made the difference.

As you are at the games how much impact do you think Lukaku has had to the team and the way we play? Last year I always felt Ibra although a fantastic player and scored lots of goals for us, was very static and everything was focused around him and we had to play certain way?
With Lukaku being very mobile we seem to be more flexible in terms of potions and players and therefore stretching teams until the last whistle and perhaps thats why we have been scoring freely in the last stages of the game? Very much like the old fergie teams?

IMO, pace, running in behind and he likes to stay up top in the forward position. I always thought Ibra liked to come a little too deep and get involved in playing football and have his back to goal. I think Lukaku just wants to put the ball in the net. It's a different mentality. By him staying up, we stretch the pitch and it allows our quicker players freedom to attack. He seems to be able to find himself in clearer goal scoring positions than Ibra but I think the difference has been Mikhy. He's having a run of games and picking teams off at the right moment. Wasn't his best game yesterday but he popped up with a nice goal and I think he's running away with the goal assists at the minute.

Souness, hardly our biggest fan, had an interesting piece in the times on Sunday. He'd take Kane over Lukaku as he's an out and out No9. We've not had that since Ruud.

He's a huge presence up there and so mobile. Zlatan is a completely different option when he arrives. Will make it even harder to plan to handle our attack.

City look incredible.

Kane seems to be able to score a wider variety of goals, so is arguably more of a goal threat. You're right Lukaku's physically huge and in theory should be better than Kane with back to goal.

If you look at City and United, man for man they look pretty evenly matched and have similar players playing in similar positions. the difference seems to be the way City are handling the ball at pace when attacking, we've done it in parts but they seem to be getting the ball forward quicker than us and can do it on the front foot. Our pace comes from counter attacking where we've been pretty good this season. The key for us is getting a lead in the game as it seems that far more options open up when the other team have to commit. City seem able to just go out and pick teams apart at will throughout the game. Both teams look very impressive this season and I think it will take some effort to take the title away from either of the two teams.

Graeme "I'm not biased towards Liverpool" Souness

He's bound to say that, if we had Kane he'd prefer Lukaku.

To be fair most pundits would take Kane over Lukaku given the choice.

In the last couple of weeks both Carragher and Conti have called him the complete striker with Conti semi-falling out with Poch over it.

I think Kane is developing into a superb number 9. Luka is still quite crude and needs development. I'd have Kane over Luka.
