That doesn't tell the full story. We've dominated matches and failed to turn those into victories. 13 draws is a bit of a disaster in some ways, but work on our finishing and flip half of those into what were probably deserved victories and it's a very different scenario.
I was disappointed with Thursday's match, but totally understand playing for a point, even if frustrated at a poor match against our neighbours.
I've said it before but will say it again for the hard of learning.I was disappointed with Thursday's match, but totally understand playing for a point, even if frustrated at a poor match against our neighbours.
The fact that you get one point for a draw and three points for a win makes points totals a very inaccurate way of judging performances. A draw is often 1 goal less good than a win (and is 2 points worse); a loss could be 10 goals worse than a draw (but is only 1 point worse).
The system is very harsh on teams that, for one reason or another, draw a few more games in any given season.
It's good for exciting football, though.

I remember when it was two points for a win, this way is much better IMO. Mata may be back tomorrow, on the bench at least, and hopefully fully ready for Celta Vigo. He was seen at the Lowry today, prior to tomorrow's game, and has said he will be back "very soon". Good news if so, lord knows we need some faces back at the moment.
He is indeed named on the bench, great news.Gassing Station | Football | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
