It's the Boy's Own Story etc but I can't see where he would fit in at Everton ... they're buying younger players and then this old guy, cos it's 'closing the circle'™ ...

Good for him, I believe he will find second wind back at his boyhood club.

He will be a star at Everton again

Not seen him play for a year or two, by any chance?

Easily the worst striker in the top 10 last season.

I agree I thought he was terrible and not even close to his old standards... he had to go

Doesn't mean he won't find that extra drive and ambition to be a Everton legend

Statistically the best striker in United's history & lets be fair here a United legend & you talk about him like he's a lump of turd.

We all know he's not the player he was 10 years ago but for fks sake , have you nothing nice to say about him.

I'm struggling to see why United just don't keep him around the club as an icon for the youngsters to look up to. But then again United don't seem to be bothered with young homegrown talent do they.

Personally i hope he does well at Everton & i really think if he had a more attack minded Manager last season he would have scored a lot more goals.

I'd love him to score the winner against utd & say fk you to Utd & their arrogant fans like your good self sir.

He'd rather not admit that United are the problem and would rather deflect using a club legend as the scapegoat.

He's been tremendous. He's devided opinion since his posturing for a move hence bitterness in certain corners of die hard united fans.

Personally I think it's a dream end. He was fearless to join united as a kid and we've had the absolute best out of him. He always said he wanted to end his career at Everton I hope it goes really well.

He won't give the united fans the fk you because he'll get a fantastic reception when he returns to Old Trafford.

Yes i'm sure you are right, Most United fans will give him a great ovation.

i was a little bit hasty in replying to the post slagging him off.

No offence intended gents.

None taken! A truly fabulous player for United and rightly has the records. He'll never top the fans favourite polls but his stats will last forever.

I'll miss him. Derby overhead. Probably the furthest I've got from ground in a single leap at old Trafford.

A lot of the reason many United fans have had enough of him is his complete lack of commitment. He was definitely ready to leave years ago and was bribed to stay with a huge contract then a huge extension which made it impossible to drop him even through some dire patches and so I reckon it's through sheer numbers of appearances that he's finished off as top scorer. He's also not exactly been committed to staying fit and being a model-pro has he?
So he's only stayed for the money, hasn't put the effort into looking after himself as well as possible and if he was kept around, are the kids really going to look up to him? He's not Giggs or Rio who both had problems off the pitch but then gave everything to make up for their indiscretions.
It's time to go. Thanks for the good times but it's been a long drawn out death.

Lukaku?

Are we just being linked with every available striker?

Or is it the Rooney/Everton link?

Please not Lukaku!!!!! If we're going to pay £100 make it for Kane at least.

Regarding Rooney, I agree with 57Ford.

He has been terrible the last few seasons!! He has looked so off the pace.

Think you're going to need to add 50% minimum to that 100m to have a sniff of Kane.

I think that's about right.

He's been overall a fantastic player for us, but you cannot avoid several very substantial problems:

(1) He was quite happy to leave at any time if he could get more money elsewhere. Fair enough, but hardly the stuff of boyhood dreams and a player / club romance.
(2) He has never bothered to be the best he could be or looked after himself properly.
(3) He has been average for a few seasons now and was absolutely terrible last season.

All that means that a lot of fans are grateful for his service but don't hold in high esteem.

Whilst I don't agree with the strength of some of your views about him, I agree with most of that. I've said it loads of times. He's an enigma. Top scorer, but not universally loved by United fans, and hugely overrated for most of his career. Good luck to him.

£75 million!

About £25-30 million of that is the Utd uplift. He is a very good player, but that really is silly money.

Oh well, I am pleased that we have him. He is likely to be an excellent player for us.
