I think the concept of a first 11 is largely dead amongst the leading sides.

We probably have 2-3 'best sides'. Some players will be in all 3 of them; others just 1 or 2 of them.
Teams need a squad that can adapt to different playing styles, hence the likes of Fella, and a squad that is flexible enough to cope with the inevitable injuries and rotation. It's about having the right blend. No one has the best 18 players in the world.

Had you beaten the mighty Wigan Madrid, and we lost to any of the MSL teams, you'd have been on here crowing. But I can see why at the present time, you're not taking pre seasons seriously (unlike your fellow fans at Tranmere).

It's a bit like the spuds not taking trophies seriously. Because they can't win one.
Ouch. A bit harsh out of nowhere, Alpine!

What is our 11 these days?

Tony Lindorf Bailey Shaw

If we did have a first 11 (and we dont), I would think it would look more like this:

DDG
Tony, Smalling, Bailey, Shaw (Lindorf has looked poor so far)
Herrera
Mikhi, Pogba, Rashford
Lukaku

Absurdly attacking, so we wouldnt play it against big sides. But it would hopefully get us goals against weaker sides.

Agreed. Although Chelsea went on their winning run of form last season with a fixed starting 11. This is largely unheard of now though.

It's subjective as we all have our favourites.

I'd start with a back 3. This would be something like my starting 11, new signings/possible signings included. Also includes Rojo who is of course injured but he's a fav of mine so he's got to be in there.

DDG

Bailly Lindelof Rojo

Valencia Herrera/Mikhy Carrick(Matic?) Pogba Martial(Perisic?)

Lukaku Rashford

Eh? 3 at the back and only one wing back?

I would love Utd to play like that, but that is more a FIFA/Pro Evo team than a real world team!

You'd only start with 10 players?

I don't think that's true at all. Everyone that has won the league that I can think of usually has the most settled team playing week after week.

When was the last team to win the title that regularly rotated out players for league games?

3 centre halves and a CDM, quick players like Martial and Perisic to cover? Why wouldn't that work?

Now that Lukaku is on board do you reckon you can improve on your sixth place from last season ?

I'd like to improve our trophy haul. And yes I do. At your and/or Liverpool's expense.

Yes but it isn't Lukaku that's key. It's Jose's 2nd season. That's the key.

I could live with that, if we insist on playing a full 11 players smile

As for whether or not we will finish above 6th. I think all the ABUs know that we will.

Maybe if they doubt it, they can go and bet against it at the bookies.
