The issue is who else is there who is proven at this level that is available to buy ? No club will sell any of the decent holding midfielders so its one of those where UNited can either stump up a stupid amount for a player with no resale value in 3-4 years..or rely on a 36 year old carrick all season.

29 these day isn't old for a footballer and Matic is in great shape. We will get 5 years out of him and I've no doubt he will do a great job for us. We can't just have a young team, we need experienced players in there too and he's got that in spades

And as someone else has said, this signing isn't really about Matic. It's about having someone reliable enough to allow Pogba some freedom further up the pitch.
