Quite funny poking my head into the Liverpool thread.

Liverpool fans that pollute this thread are utterly convinced that their brilliant side is the bestest team on Earth and vastly better than Utd. But on their own thread, there is a lot of uncertainty about whether they can get through to the EL by narrowly beating Hoffenheim over 2 legs, i.e. precisely the kind of "crap" team that Utd that had to beat repeatedly to win the Europa cup that Liverpool fans supposedly dont think is worth winning because it is too easy.
Surely CL qualifiers are one rung above EL qualifiers?
And?

ORD is comparing a single CL qualifying game against the type of teams we had to beat to WIN (not qualify) the EL.

So I don't see your point.
You're not alone.

No, you wouldn't. I will spell it out for you.....the teams that qualify for the EL are one rung below the teams that have to qualify for the CL. Be that one team or five.

15 times we had to play an opponent to win that competition. There's no shame in winning it. wink

The mistake you're making is football just isn't as simple as that. In one off games/two leg ties anything can happen. There is almost no discernible difference between the quality of the teams you talk about.

In our EL qualifying group we got beaten twice. By your assertion we shouldn't probably have been beaten.

I'm with ORD.

Good call. yes

Although I think Leicester will be a bit more canny defensively than what we've faced so far.

Still, it would be nice. smile

Leicester looked decent last night (albeit against very weak opposition and not playing their first 11).

Don't tell me this now! biggrin

I do expect us to beat them perhaps not 4-0 but I thought I'd give it a go!

WTAF - first comment is so infantile its barely worth a response - most of us are fairly concerned about this season given transfer failings, and I stated I think Utd may wel finish above us

Second is Spurs fans not us - I recall saying the exact opposite and that your season was better than theirs when I was "polluting" this thread

So let me get this right CL teams are a rung above EL teams? Liverpool are a CL side. But if they lose tonight they are an EL side and down a rung?

And Celtic are now better than every team that'll be in the Europa League this year?

Am I getting there?

Fair enough, Adam - I was mostly messing about / taking the piss. But fair points.

Liverpool would be lucky to finish 6th, in my genuine opinion.

Touche.

But my guess is that you're starting to see the quality in Utd that ABUs were able to deny last year.

Maybe because you've bought most of it over the summer?

Delusional.

I think most people's criticism of Matic was that it was a lot of money to spend on someone at the end of their career. Personally I thought it was a lot but understood that there is a premium to pay when buying off a top six rival.
