The thing I don't understand is why they let so few away fans in - that really makes the atmosphere.

Probably the best atmosphere I have witnessed at a game was an fa cup semi final at Old Trafford.

It was Spurs/ Arsenal so I was a neutral but I was right on the halfway line and as the crowd was 50/50 it was superb hearing the singing /cheering moving from one end to the other.

Many time you can barely hear the away fans.

Somewhat goes against "home" advantage.

I am not suggesting a 50/50 split - just a few K more than they get now.

Greater allocation for away fans is already huge norm in cup games.

Was that the 2-0 away and win 3-0 at home? Absolutely mental night, bizarrely the last match I ever went to with my Dad, as I'd just turned 16 and was determined to be independent afterwards

The game against Real recently was also good, and the game against Roma was amazing.

I've a pal who is an Arsenal fan, was at the Emirates last night and said it was ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC!

Cologne fans really boisterous, no prawn sandwiches, corporates or familys just German blokes, letting off flares and marching round the streets with scarves tied around their wrists.

Proper supporters he said, not nanny state stuff.

Football is far too sanitised now,
this is impressive by the german invaders

Copied this from the Arsenal thread. I'm not advocating racism and violence but i do feel that many football supporters see going to a game now as akin to a theatre visit or a trip to a theme park and I'm sad it's become like that.

"Typical pathetic sanitized modern arsenal fans.

The Koln fans did nothing wrong, all the idiots saying it should be called off/unsafe/intimidating, no it wasn't. I flogged my ticket (maybe to a German) but i spoke to a few who went and just said it was a typical German fan experience, supporting their team loudly and boisterously. no unsavory elements.

Yes they were diving over stewards to get with there mates but that was the only trouble bar the odd scuffle amongst themselves outside. no trouble with the arsenal fans, and most were very pleasant.

the modern emirates fan being intimidated/scared by this is a sad reflection of what our once great club has become. the same cretins who facilitate wenger still being in charge."

Ah I remember the mid 80's, stood in United Road paddock as a 16 year old college student, dodging sharpened 50p pieces and darts from the home(!) and away fans and being crushed as we surged forward when Peter Davenport finally scored! biggrin

Good luck to Wayne but we really need to put Everton to the sword today.

Surely the leading goalscorer should get a rapturous reception?

I would cheer him to the roof, despite all my criticism of him. Massive player for us. And he left at about the right time.
