It's quite remarkable how giddy everyone around here gets as soon as utd are back to playing a team from the bottom half of the league.
Good effort not great but good I’d say 4/10 on wummometer.

We’re giddy because we’ve got 3 players back from mid/long term injury that are massive influences and bring good/great quality to the team. It looks like we’re back on track after a stutter. I couldn’t give a fk who we beat just so long as we do.

He really should change his name to Bertie Magoo

I am intrigued by the idea of playing Zlatan deeper (false 9 or 10). He's got great feet and can pass. He's also brilliant at holding up, of course. He's not mobile, but neither is Mata. He would be a huge threat arriving into the box for headers, too.

I am still not 100% sure about Lukaku, but playing those two would be pretty frightening.
I'm the same, it will be interesting how he plays Ibra and Lukaku together and if he drops Ibra back to an advanced 10 role. Either way it's great to have him back and his presence alone in the dressing room will boost the players smile

If Newcastle had beaten us, they'd be only 6 points behind The Best First Eleven In The Universe. Even as it is, Newcastle are closer to the Almost Nearly Men than the Almost Nearly Men are to City.

Now that Pogba is back, we can hopefully start to put a run of games together. We've no chance unless City implode, but stranger things have happened.

He's been crying all weekend, with the Spuds, and only now can he muster up a feeble WUMing attempt. Sad man.

I agree. I was thinking this when he came on and Mata wasn't on the pitch. Gives a different dimension to the 10 position, and his "lightweight" 10s have not worked so far.

He could play them as a front two with three at the back. That's what I would prefer myself.

Just my opinion but I think this first 11(!) could be all-conquering? the front 3/4 would interchange positions like we saw on Saturday ie. in the final third the players just express themselves and do want they want.

Valencia right wing back, and who's left? None of the above would be able to play left wing back. I also think Young has provided much needed quality on the delivery into the box front, and until the others learn to cross, I'd continue playing him. I also think Rojo is a liability. Other than Linda, I'd play the team he started with on Saturday. Jesse or Ibra could play number 10, and Jesse could also play in Martial's or Rashford's position.

There in lies the problem....who's LWB? Martial won't be tracking back and neither would Rashford if he was on the left!

I'd give Rojo and Bailly a go at the back in a 4, I thought they gelled really well last year in the games they played together and Rojo had come on a lot under Jose. They gave us the grit and fk you attitude that Rio and Vidic gave off IMO.

It's a good problem to have (finally) that we have a lot of options to choose from!

I think the problem with all our CBs is that there is a mistake in all of them. More in Rojo than the others in my view.

Just my opinion - Tony can do LWB if needed but to be honest with 3 at the back, Rojo should cover off the defensive leftside of that with Matic and/or Pogba as further cover. Martial is a better footballer than Young (yes I'm well aware that his game looks to have improved lately) and I would pick him over Young.

I guess the formation would look something like 3-4-1-2.

Ideally we would have big possession and wouldn't have to worry so much about defending!! biggrin

Without wishing to sound all Spursy! Out of interest, what would you say is your preferred starting 11 and formation?

We do not have the players for 3-5-2.

Playing 2 CMs other than Pogba will mean he can concentrate more on running the game. None of our No 10s is in good enough form to require that room be made for them.

Winning! I that looks good and likely to be at least one of Mourinho's starting line ups. I'd still like us to find a way to play two strikers, to do that though you're either 3 at the back or you play a 4-4-2!!

Not many would have predicted JM would have started with an attacking 3 of Tony M, Rash and Lukaku at weekend but I think he liked what he saw.

Options options...

Mou's hand has been forced by the terrible form of Mikhi and, to a lesser extent, Mata.

Interesting that none of us are brave enough to pick Mikhy as our preferred No 10! Obviously the lad is class when he's on it but maybe it's a bridge too far. To me it looked like he did his best work for Dortmund counter-attacking from central midfield running with the ball at his feet.

Micky has stacks and stacks of ability and showed it at the start of the season. His decline came with the loss of Pogba and the fact he didn't have the free reign he has with him in the side. Maybe now he's back he can re-discover that form and play like we all know he can!
