I help out in a charity bookshop and one of the donations we received yesterday was Howard Webb's Autobiography.
I put it to one side for any Liverpool supporters who may be interested. The side I put it on was the one where we put books for recycling

Hoping to do that myself next year when my health improves enough. I spend so much time in used bookshops... And while I have a lot of footy books, I'm not sure I'd be tempted by Mr Webb's book... Liverpool have had a €100m bid for Monaco wonderkid Kylian Mbappe rejected, according to reports in Spain.
Marca, one of the leading Spanish publications, claim that a substantial bid from the Reds was turned down by the French club.
Mbappe is one of Europe's most sought-after players this summer, with interest from clubs all over the continent.
Liverpool, we know, would take the 18-year-old in a heartbeat. But Marca claim that Jurgen Klopp has firmed up his interest with a 'second bid' of €100m (£88m).
The report insists, however, that: "Dmitri Rybolovlev, owner of the Ligue 1 team, doen't seem to have much intention of selling his striker and in any event, has always maintained that the starting price will go beyond the 114m euros that Manchester United paid for Paul Pogba last summer."
It states that Monaco are more than happy to keep Mbappe if he wishes to stay, and that the player has told Rybolovlev that the only club he would leave the principality for is Real Madrid.

Looking like you have a good first 11 brewing. How is the academy doing with getting players ready? It's tougher the higher up the league you go to "blood" youngsters as the expectation is much higher, but wondered if you had 2-3 who would make their debuts in the league next season?
Trent Alexander-Arnold I expect to make a few appearances this season and be back up for Clyne. He looks like he could be a very, very good player. Ward is the goalkeeper we sent to Huddersfield last season, I would say he played a good part in helping them get promotion. I hope he returns their on loan this year and gets some Premiership experience.Others we have Woodburn, Ojo, Gomez, Kent. I'd say they are on par with Ibe - very good for their age group but only time will tell with how far they'll get.
I don't think we have the next Gerrard or Fowler in there yet!

Not everyone can be a Gerrard or Fowler, but hopefully you will get to play a few in the league and see how they measure upOthers we have Woodburn, Ojo, Gomez, Kent. I'd say they are on par with Ibe - very good for their age group but only time will tell with how far they'll get.

Rose tinted glasses perhaps? What is says is that you aren't prepared to pay what it takes to sign the best players. Anyone can make a low-ball offer, safe in the knowledge it won't be accepted. Be interesting to see what the total spend actually is at the end of window, not what has been bid. This applies to all clubs not just Scouse.
No-one sees Club A say "we value our player at 100m" and offers 100m straight away. Deals are always a haggle. Our transfer record is 35m from several years ago - we've had to pay less since then. Not bothered whether we get this kid or not. This is a sign that we CAN afford to offer far more than we've been able to previously, that's all. The jiffle king said:

It is interesting the U23 squad as a whole. Unless you are absolute class from a young age, you really are never going to make it in the first team. Apart from Sterling, we haven't really had anyone who has really broken through to the first team and genuinely cemented their place that I can remember since Gerrard made his debut in 1998. TAA has the biggest chance of the current crop I'd say.Others we have Woodburn, Ojo, Gomez, Kent. Being in any of the U23 top 4 richest teams in England, the chances of making it at the club have got to be near zero.

I think more to the point - our current club record transfer fee is £35m and apparently we've just bid 2.5x that.jammy-git said:

If not and he looks at the prem we are basically saying we are in for him which is nothing it positive

From what I have read Klopp and the Dortmund striker didn't see eye to eye so no chance of that happening..
Think he has so much to spend and sees that going in Salah, dynamic midfield player , CB and LB
Talk is he is not looking for a striker
Someone needs to tell Jammy and Flip Think he has so much to spend and sees that going in Salah, dynamic midfield player , CB and LB

Well then offer the 120 million. By the time Sturridge and Origi are sold it will be 80 million.
Keep Milner at left back. Keep the goal keepers, keep the existing central midfield. Buy a centre back with the Wisdom and Sakho money.
After all the sales we will have spent no more than 100 million over 4 windows

Selling Sturridge and/or Origi over Ings is an interesting approach...Keep Milner at left back. Keep the goal keepers, keep the existing central midfield. Buy a centre back with the Wisdom and Sakho money.
