Not sure why you keep drumming on about this 1m over 35m jammy, its quite obvious we are not going to bid 36m yeah
That's not what I was saying...m3sye said:
its says break our record but we are at a table to negotiate, we are suppose willing to pay 50m they want 70m would not shock me if we end up 60/65m
lets face it we were gonna pay 50m ish for a cb we would pay more than that for a 22 yr old in midfield who was just voted player of the year in germany
I fully agree. People keep saying we're about to bid £70m but we won't. Like you say, I bet the first bid is about £55m and we might end up agreeing a price of £60-65m.lets face it we were gonna pay 50m ish for a cb we would pay more than that for a 22 yr old in midfield who was just voted player of the year in germany

Yes that's true. Given that he has a €57m (~£48m) clause that can be activated next summer, you would think if he was to go this summer, we would have to pay at least £60m for Leipzig to even consider a bid.
That's the crux. With other clubs waiting for the clause to activate. I wonder whether Bayern and whomever else will wade in if a bid is accepted.jammy-git said:
Because when have we ever gone in and bid the asking price?
The only person I can think of is Andy Carroll...

Are we getting carried away with hype?
What I do like is if he was from the French or even Spanish league I'd be wondering if he can hack the premier league but something about the German league feels familiar and suited to the Prem league.
He's only 5'8 so hopefully he's got some muscle.

What has 5ft 8 got to do with anything? What I do like is if he was from the French or even Spanish league I'd be wondering if he can hack the premier league but something about the German league feels familiar and suited to the Prem league.

If you're good enough irrelevant how big you are
Hype? Surely that's come from a superb season ? So it's worthy? It's not me or anyone in here saying it we are just relaying reports from people who know who watch German football regular unlike anyone on here

He said "He's only 5'8 so hopefully he's got some muscle" ie he's shorter than average so needs to be pretty powerfully built to cope with the buffeting he'll get in midfield over here, that's all. Smicer was a world class player and clearly more than skillful enough, but didn't take to the rough stuff too well. Obviously its something they'll take into account when considering any player, even if he needs to go into the gym to develop some extra bulk once signed (again, as some players are reported to have had to do in the past). I agree with your post though.

80 caps, 27 international goals = world class. Not suited to the Prem, which is what I was saying in my post...https://youtu.be/lhvtUUe_U4c

I must admit, he doesn't quite fit my definition of world class either, but then my definition does seem to be a lot more stringent than most peoples.
My definition isn't "Ronaldo/Suarez/Messi-like". But anyone who plays for their country against other teams around the world, for me, is world class. I can remember him standing out in his national team when we bought him, too. As pointed out, he did score a few crackers for us, even if the Prem was a bit physical for him, ultimately.

If he's 5'8 and Sterling esque I'd worry as he looks being our new midfield star but if he 5'8 and has the strength to battle a bit he'll be stand out.
And hype wise my question was asked as I'm not wholly familiar with him so not sure if he has provenance more than just one season.
Calm down Sye, genuine questions that's all. Anyway nothing wrong with being 5'8 mate
