Totally unconvinced by the Ox, he's a poor man's James Milner, jack of all trades, master of none. That £20m would be better spent on improving the coaching/scouting so we can bring through our own squad fillers!

We don't need squad depth players. We need first 11 players where our current first 11 then give us the depth.
Absolutely this 100%. Which is what I was alluding to the other day, we shouldn't be selling any of our current 1st choice squad. Bring in 3 top players and filter down current players to give us a better squad.SydneyBridge said:
Would the Ox play any more for us, than he would for arsenal? Not much, if at all.
Agree with the above. A world class centre defender is priority now.
That's for him to decide. If he wants to join us and knows he's going to have a fight to be in the starting XI every week then I'm not sure what people are worried about?!Agree with the above. A world class centre defender is priority now.

I'm much rather we sign him than hear you whinge all season about squad depth and how signing no one costs us the title.RedTrident said:
Wijnaldum gives us everything Ox will and with Coutinho moving into the middle I'd rather we bought a more explosive player like Keita where then it's a fight between Can and Henderson for the depth in the 3rd midfield position.
Wijnaldum and Ox are two very different players. Wijnaldum does't tend to dribble or take players on and Ox will be much better cover on the wings when we don't have Salah or Mane available.jammy-git said:

When was the last time Ox played on the wing? If he can play there then sure why not to rotate with Salah and Mane. He's not going to ever make our preferred starting 11 in the midfield 3 positions. I thought I'd read he sees himself as a Gerrard type box to box midfielder?
And his injury record....

Naby Keita is keen to move to Merseyside and has been offered a £130,000-a-week contract by Liverpool. (Paul Joyce)
If this were true, we would have had to ask permission of the club before speaking to the player... jammy-git said:
So you could have players that have regularly played for Gibraltar that you'd consider world class?
For me world class means they could legitimately stake a claim for a place in a world all stars team for their era.
Sorry I'm away at the moment. I applaud your ability to not let go of this particular bone but perhaps we can just agree to disagree. You have a definition of sorts; I have a definition of sorts. 1 is no more right or wrong than the other but arguing about it is pointless really. I thought Smicer was a great player for the Czech Republic and it was a shame he wasn't more suited to the Prem (which was the original point); others clearly disagree. For me world class means they could legitimately stake a claim for a place in a world all stars team for their era.
So maybe we are going to smash our previous record transfer? The 70 million is euros I presume.
My instincts say we're in for Keita with what was the Virgil money. Though I've not read any rumours of any other centre backs that we're interested in. Add that it looks like Gomez might go and Wisdom already has. Or we keep Sakho.

Even if it were true, I couldn't see Coutinho moving to France. The Ligue is no way as competitve as the PL and I wouldn't see money as a motivation to move. The only team that he would realistically go to if they came in would be Barca in my view. Maybe even Madrid. I see him staying with us for at least another year where he would be top dog and possibly a run at the title if some of the rumored signings come off....
Non-story in my view.
