Its certainly possible, but so is JK telling him he is out the side until its resolved and he gets his head straight or doesn't disrupt team unity

They just bid around £108 plus add ons and FSG refused? They then gave us till last night to consider the offer again. I dont think they will sell, its a world cup season so he needs to be playing, and from what i read a give us another season agreement was what Klopp and FSG thought they had in place. Naturally Barca and his agent had other ideas hence pushing for the move.

If that offer had come in June however i think FSG would have cashed in allowing Klopp time to find a replacement.

As for lack of transfers we dont know the real reasons, can just speculate why we didnt go to Ajax when VVD was off and pay £42m for a new centre back. Seems an FSG kinda player that, young high sell on value.
Where did they offer £108 million plus add ons? News to me.

We've known all last season what our weaknesses were and have not been able to address them. Even if he stays for another season I doubt that we will be able to close the deals on a suitable replacement. I have no doubt we can pick up another 2 or 3 maybe players, but the evidence under FSG suggests otherwise to buying a proven ready made replacement, regardless of how much time we have.

We don't need to speculate about the reason for our lack of transfers. I'm happy just to pause there and accept that FSG have failed to bring in the quality we need to build on last season's wafer thin squad. The speculation only leads to arguments, let's just acknowledge that we failed to make the improvements that we all wanted to see. I put the responsibility on FSG, others can blame Klopp.

Quite it was around 84m with a load of stupid add ons like

Winning multiple trophies in 1 year
winning multiple champions league trophies
Winning Ballon D'or
Winning multiple trophies and Ballon D'or in same year
Payment of 80odd mill paid over 5 years

BASICALLY A fkING JOKE - considering they insisted Neymar was paid in 1 with no add ons

I'd say that the Neymar payment would have been a contractual stipulation and no such thing exists in respect of PCam

I agree though that the add ons as reported were stupid. Still seems strange that 84 million doesn't seem alot in this market.

£84M is a huge amount of money, but given where fees are post Neymar's move, and what United paid for Pogba a year ago, anything under £100M upfront was always going to get a polite 'fk off'.

I have no idea what 'the club' (and I include owners/directors/management in this) are doing with transfers (identifying talent & negotiating), but I'm starting to feel very uneasy. I can't believe they think we can compete at the top end of the table with the squad we currently have.

I watched some of the United game at the weekend - they had a number of players that would walk in to our 1st choice mid field sat on their bench.

Ignore the 'number'... I thought Mkhitaryan had come on as a sub. But Ander Herrera would walk in to our current 3 man midfield.

I don't agree.
I think he would definitely definitely in the squad and would get a game but don't think he would 'walk' into the first team. Especially if we still count PC as a first team player, and Lallana.

This was FSG/Transfer Committee/Klopp's big window. The one they simply had to get right if top 4 is status is to be retained.

We struggled with squad depth last season and that was without Europe or decent cup runs.

The general feeling was that we needed a LB, CB, Midfielder, Striker and Winger. Reports stated that we had a £200m war chest.

So far we have signed a winger who is 1st team ready and 2 project players at LB and Striker. We have spent a small amount.

If the situation is the same at the end of the window then fans have every right to blow their fuses. Mine is well lit.

They both would - our 3 are far to similar -
I would take Phil above Micky when free but Herrera would get in the current 3 as he would offer something different.... its like having 3 mirror images on the pitch with the current 3 - needs addressing and quick

Fair enough and I agree with Mikki.

Herrera whilst I can see a place for him now I don't think he would get in our first team with PC and AL fit.

I was reacting to the comment that a 'number' of their bench would walk into our midfield.

One is a number I suppose but I don't think he would be nailed on.

Doesn't mean I don't think we need more though.
I just won't be throwing my toys out of the pram on 1st September no matter what. I am happy to go along for the ride and I think Klopp would walk if he felt shafted by FSG.

I'll save my pitchforks for if that happens.

As desolate says, to pay a release clause the money has to be paid in full. Barcelona are in a huge amount of debt. They're also currently paying Messi 800k a week and have to better that contract if they're not going to lose him on a free next summer. Effectively they have fk all money to go and buy new stars.

Here's a question for everyone.

If we win a cup/ get top 4 this season will people still feel let down by FSG, or will they say they got it wrong on us "having" to sign anyone now (assuming no more transfers)?

I don't feel let down by FSG although very p'ed off with the VvD debacle. I'd be happy with top 4 and a trophy although I'd think we have progress if we're closer to the top 2 than we have been and in the title mix with a few games to go.

Personally, I'd still feel aggrieved as I'd think what could we have achieved with some decent investment.

I'm not a believer some of RT's wilder conspiracy theories, but it's been clear to everyone that we need to strengthen the 1st team and the squad in certain areas, and at this stage it doesn't look like that's coming. This despite a significant amount of extra revenue coming in to the club.

I never expected us to go out and blow 150-200M net, but as it stands, we've spent nothing.

Incidentally, having been away for a couple of days and just caught up on here, its no wonder fans of the opposition love having a laugh in here. Seriously chaps, JK clearly had 1 eye on the Hoffenheim game and we got a win without really being under threat. 3 points, move on to the next game.

And for Gawd's sake, can we shut up about PC and FSG yet...

You don't think Herrera would get into that midfield? fk me laughlaughlaugh

Except Mane there's no Liverpool player who would get anywhere near United's starting 11.

I don't think Herrera would 'walk' into our first team no.

He would definitely improve the squad which means he would probably get in the side as of last weekend.

And as for the rest then that's fair enough. I mean you have had a couple of decent games so you must feel great being back after a few years in the doldrums, relatively. As a long term LFC supporter I can empathise with how it must have felt.
