We've just sold the best athlete in the league (bar clyne obv.) to a direct rival. Gutted to honest.
FTFYAnd we've just sold him to a rival. I don't think there is anything positive about it at all.
In the short term Trippier is a poorer option defensively than Walker. If you look at Uniteds goal against you at WHL a few months ago Martial left Trippier for dead over a very short space to put in the cross for Rooney to score.
I think he would have had a harder time doing that to Walker who if nothing else is quick.
You're undoubtedly a worse team for selling him so its all about how you claw back that drop in standard.

To counter that, Trippier is a much better crosser of the ball. I think he would have had a harder time doing that to Walker who if nothing else is quick.

I'm sure they'll buy a replacement FB and then Poch will work his magic again.

That's about it really. He hasn't got a brain or much of a first touch. So he's often caught out of position or gives the ball away cheaply. But because he's quick he can get back and make a last ditch tackle. So everyone thinks he's a great defender. A great defender wouldn't need to make last ditch tackles....Funny thing with this Dier situation. Levy has signed him and a few others on long term contracts with...relatively speaking middle of the road/not superstar wages. Low enough that if a top club were to show interest in signing the player that wages wouldn't be much of an issue but Levy would be in the driving seat as to the transfer fee. This protects his reputation as a hard negotiator and ensures he maximises Spurs' return but leaves the door open for the players heads to be turned. Does this mean that Levy's long term plan is to sell off his prized assets so as to pay off the stadium improvements and hope that in the meantime Pochettino brings in/promotes players to replace them?

A great defender wouldn't need to make last ditch tackles....I said a while back that we football supporters were going to have to re-calibrate what's "normal" for a transfer fee this summer because of the new TV deal - Sunderland were relegated this year and paid more money from the PL than Leicester received for winning the league last year.
£50m is good business in the current climate for a great player in the latter stage of his career who has fallen out with the manager and wants to move back up north.

He's never paid superstar wages as long as I can remember, so that hasn't changed just because of the new build. We're bound to lose a few of our players, every club does every season.
