Added to that I can't see anyone at the moment we could afford both in terms of transfer fees or wages who would have an immediate impact on improving our current squad and before the usual WUM'ers jump all over this, I don't mean we already have the best team in the world, I mean being able to afford actual proven match winners that are better than what we currently have.

That only leaves the option of taking a punt on some players who MIGHT have some potential which I can take or leave right now tbh.

I'd prefer it if rather than chasing these we concentrated on getting our current squad injury free, fully fit and all the under-performers playing to the ability that we know they are capable of. That would be a much bigger boost to us then bringing some unknown player in IMO.

True. It's shocking just how in a mess our club is. Can't wait for us to get our act together, start performing on the pitch and then try and claw ourselves above you guys in the league.
Also imagine what we could do to City! Presumably beating the best team in the league means we are now the best team in the league?

I guess the Spudies are just jealous. Couldn't even win at Arsenal, and look where they are!

No idea who to support in the Tottenham-Man U game!

But... but.. we gave you a footballing lesson so using your logic doesnt it make us the bestestest?

Surely us? we are no threat to the mighty Liverpool obviously.

We destroyed you a scant 2 months ago by a bigger margin than you beat City and they in turn beat us. The results between the top six have less to do with who is the better team overall and more to do with who turns up on the actual day. Who'd have thought we'd be destroying Madrid so comprehensively? Conversely on this seasons form, I'd have put money on us tanking Arsenal but we didn't turn up that day and they did.

Any of the top six is capable of beating any other team right now.

Up until a few weeks ago everyone was saying City were unbeatable. Only we have done it and made it look relatively easy - though we did try to fk it up at the end.

Besides, when you beat us early in the season we were just getting started, barely off the beach to be honest. Since then only City have taken more points than us and we've gone on an 18 game unbeaten run.

To be fair to City, they were their own downfall against Liverpool. Most careless at the back they’ve been all season. Not to say Liverpool didn’t still have to put it in the back of the net though, credit where it’s due.

In your "18 game unbeaten run" you've struggled against teams we've destroyed and vice versa. I also didn't think your game against City was easy, far from it. You were great going forward but still have the same old issues in defence, on any other day with City on slightly better form and that game could have easily ended up 3-5.

I think you have the potential to be a great team but you need to sort that defence out and that's not something that has a quick fix. Right now there is a fag paper difference in quality between the top 6 teams, I still think City are ahead in terms of depth of squad and Arsenal seem to be dropping behind a bit but I really wouldn't be counting my chickens just yet off the back of a win against a slightly off form City.

I agree, us, yous, Chelsea and Utd are very close.

Long term I think we're possibly in a slightly better position than the rest depending on what impact VVD has on the defence. Utd just seem to be buying anyone without any thought on how they'll fit in the team. Chelsea look likely to be getting another new manager in the summer which will no doubt mean another rebuilding effort. I think you guys will continue to impress given your wage bill and net spend, but you do now seem to be behind most of the top six clubs in the pecking order for new players.

We are after a completely different player to the rest of the top six, Pogbas, VVD's, Snachez's. Not our MO.

I don't think we will ever be that club that spends £75m on a defender or one that pays £300k+ a week, we just aren't set up that way so we'll miss out on the obvious star choices a lot of the time. Do I find that annoying, sometimes as if we stepped it up a notch and went big, it could just be that last thing that takes us over the top. However that is a BIG risk to take with the future of the club as if the gamble doesn't pay off, well we've seen what happens to clubs who overspend to try to get on top.

Luckily for us we seem to have a bit of a knack of finding or nurturing undiscovered talent so in terms of quality players we do OK. wink

The biggest problem for us in the past has not been bringing players in, it's been retaining them or being tempted by offers so ludicrous, we feel compelled to sell them. However it's something we now seem to be actively trying to improve on so we'll see.

Nor are we really - since Klopp has been in charge we are +40m on transfers - I think we can budget 40/50m net spend but we dont

Last year we made 301m in revenue I think you made 209m ??

You've just spent £75m on a defender and will be paying him £180k a week. That's in a different league to us and is more in line with state sponsored clubs like City and Chelsea. Perhaps you were feeling a bit flush after your sale of Coutinho or perhaps it's a sign of a change of strategy?

we are 40m in profit ?? our net spend since the days of FSG has been 20m a year
Likely hood of us spending 75m on 1 player without Phil money probably very low

If they stepped in they didn't do a very good job he's still at Bordeaux.. and no I don't remember us being in for him at all. I doubt anyone had even heard of him until a few months ago.

To be fair to Liverpool, they may look suspect at the back but they've only lost 2 games so far. 1 team from 4 is going to miss out on CL and it'll go down to the wire.
