In a way - we were unlucky. The offside was very unfortunate, Matic got away with a yellow in the first half which meant he would have had to change his game, and the first goal came after a clash of heads.

BUT we are at more fault than the referee. Seemed to be happy with 1-0, and then seemed to be happy with 1-1. Morata is lacking confidence, and he strikes me like a Torres style personality, who will find it hard to get that back, especially with how the media crucify him. I'm not sure Moses is at the level either.

Still, top 4 is still a possibility, and so is a result against Barca.
Yep. Agree with that. I think our general play is pretty good, we just need to kill off teams when we're dominating.

I thought Atkinson was poor also. Let too many fouls go, especially on Willian.

Europa League surely?
Hope not, rather finish 6th than 5th.
Crazy attitude. Utd are only playing in the Champions League this season thanks to the Europa League. Plus it's more silverware. If Liverpool were in it I'd rather they focus on that than the League Cup.

But some would say we only won the league last season because we weren't in Europe, so what's better, winning the league or playing in Europe?

I think a club has to give itself the opportunity to win both. You can't win the Champions League if you're not in it, whereas you could win both the league and CL in you're in the CL (it's just a bit harder).

That sort of attitude is for second rate clubs like Arsenal. Chelsea should have a squad to compete in both.

Honestly, for me winning the domestic Premier league gives me more pleasure than just competing or even winning the champions league which is just a financial win for the clubs involved. Even the name 'Champions' league is a bit of a fake as obviously it should be called 'Anyone in the top four' league.

Totally agree. League over everything.

It should still be called the European Cup, either that or only the Champions of their respective leagues take part.

Agreed, that was a great night for us clap. And we were champions of Europe whilst only being the second best team in England followed by being the 6th best tea in England the year after. I would much prefer to be the best team year after year in our own premier league, which is regarded as the best in Europe if not the World ! Also, the workplace bragging rights are better by beating Utd, City, Liverpool, Arsenal etc to our title every year.biggrin The European cup should just be a bonus, just like the World club championship is which for some reason no one gives a toss about confused

I just think back to the 70s and 80s, trudging to away matches and losing at Shrewsbury, Hereford, Wrexham, Oldham, Notts County, Rotherham and other god forsaken hellholes. To come from that to be champions of Europe!!!

Plus Arsenal and Spurs never have been!!

I enjoyed those days back in the 70s and 80s just as much as the last 14 years.

I don't know if it's an age factor, in that it's more enjoyable when you're young, or football really has lost it's edge and excitement.

I'm at the point, for the first time, of questioning the value of my season tickets. This is not a result of our current form because I've supported the team through relegation and ineptitude but enjoyed it nonetheless.

I just find it's all getting boring and too much.

Back in the day you could make social arrangements as long as you avoided Saturdays. Then it was Sundays. This season we've had a Friday night game and Saturday nights are coming too. So us muppets traipse around the country to fill stadiums to add atmosphere for games to be more appealing to overseas viewers to line the pockets of the Premier League.

I'm not sure I want to fund it any longer.

I agree Sparky, especially football at the top has become a sterile sport where no one can afford to make mistakes so everything has to be so clinically correct because of the financial consequences. Back in the day when Shankly made his famous quote that "football wasn't a matter of life and death... it's much more important !' that was said with a passion for the game as a sport, not a business. Now we have players on multi-million pound salaries, football on live nearly every day of the week, to use another famous quote..

'Where did it all go wrong ?' wink

It was also said as a joke, a point that seems to have been lost over time.

Not sure if it's been discussed here yet but one thing that really annoys me, and is probably symptomatic of the lack of long term planning with coaching, is how we've wasted amazing talent that have gone on to excel elsewhere. The 2 obvious examples being Salah and De Bruyne. Both were discarded with little attempt to nurture their talents. Both have been absolutely brilliant this season, with the right coaching. Maybe in hindsight it exposes the shortcomings of Jose who wasted both and sold them, but it's very frustrating we can't hire a coach who can develop these talents and have the support from the club to bring them on.
