Costa is just driving down his value. He wants to go to Athletico, Chelsea can't sell him anywhere else and all the time his value is reducing.

Athletico know it so can buy for a low price for January.

Conte's fault. He should have treated Costa properly and kept him onside, now he's got an unwanted side show distracting him from his job.

I did read one comment on the 'net that said to text your centre forward (the one who just helped you win the title) and tell him he is surplus to requirements is practically a sacking offence.

But we don't know what has gone on behind the scenes - but to do it like that is cowardly from Conte.

Matic's transfer I cannot understand.
Who will be first out of the door. Conte or Costa?

It doesn't matter how you treat some players, they'll never be happy.

Costa is a difficult prima donna so well done to Conte for not putting up with it. There's 100s players in the league that need similar treatment and clubs need to stand up to the spoilt brats.

What would have been the 'proper' way to treat a player agitating for a move mid season, reportedly feigning or at least exaggerating a back injury and refusing to train?

Conte got it right IMO - Costa really has no-one to blame except himself.

This is the great thing about Chelsea, we learn from experience.

I don't think RA will see it like that, his just seen £60m + wiped off one of his assets over a text, he must be fed up with giving money away this month.

Apparently Costa was told he wasn't in Conte's plans back in January, not over a text in June.

Keep him on side. Sending anyone a 'text' to say you're not wanted is hardly professional and isn't going to motivate anyone.

But, hey let's see how much Chelsea manage to sell him for using the Conte method.

I can see RA being less than impressed with Conte in this instance.

Costa told Conte he didn't want to be at the club on his first day as Manager, then tried to get a move to China in the Xmas transfer window. I can understand why Conte would be frustrated with him.

Costa situation is "Play stupid games, win stupid prizes" from both.

Flirt with other clubs during every window? Strop that you don't get moved? Expect to be excluded from next seasons plans.

Text player who courts controversy everywhere he goes that he's not in your plans, expect the media to be involved next.

In an ideal world, Costa can come back, settle back in and work in a two up top with Morata who is proven in a 2 up front. In the real world, the damage is done and it's over. If Costa comes back and Conte goes, it's a ludicrous display of player power that shows the board still aren't ready to give control to managers.

This is far from an ideal world though. From what I can gather Costa is still in Brazil, not training and overweight. He's also being fined £150k a week for not being back in the UK and in training at Cobham. Allegedly.

Given that, he's well and truly burnt his bridges. But nobody will come out of this well.

His agent will probably do ok.

Chelsea seem to have something very wrong going on with their players & Management.

Roman should have backed AVB more , wasn't this the reason he was appointed ?

Yes it's been shocking management. 5 League titles, Champions League, FA Cups, Carling Cups.

Why back AVB? Most of us are afraid to own up to bad decisions and let situations drag on. Roman acts quick.

People knock us for instability but it seems to work better than say Arsenal stability.

The unknowable will be that for all those titles, shouldn't you have won more?

Money doesn't guarantee success.

Take City last season. Expensive squad managed by Pep who was previously considered the best manager.

If you're going to Wembley on Sunday, and see any of our fans engaging in anti Semitic chanting, signing or abuse, or any other kind of poor behaviour, text 87474 with the block/row/approx seat number of the offender/s.

This will enable security to deal with the offenders without you personally having to take your life into your hands by confronting some of our more Neanderthal like fans.

C'mon yooo bloooz.

Taking stock of the negatives

  1. injuries
  2. suspensions
  3. players on strike
  4. lost our Wembley dominance
  5. feeble PH post count compared to Spurs
it's not easy to be positive.
