A win is a win and good to see Timo on the scoresheet. But right or wrong, I can't see me thinking of Kepa as anything but a petulant wker (and nowhere near the keeper his pricetag suggests) after his display against Sarri. If Mendy doesn't start the next game, the tail is wagging the dog

FWIW the express have been pretty clear about TT's position on the keeper....

"No Edu is the No.1 and this is clear," said Tuchel.

"This was clear before the game. This stays like this. I'm very happy Kepa had a second clean sheet in a row. Let him build up his rhythm and confidence, not only in the cup game but also in a home game at Stamford Bridge.

"It was clear before that we hope for the very best performance and a clean sheet and Edu will be in goal from now on because he recovered physically and mentally. Right now he's the No.1."

Let's give Kepa some credit. He made a really good save at Barnsley to stop them going a goal up, and did everything that was asked of him last night. He used to be a highly rated keeper so there's a decent player in there.

I was pleased with last night's performance, into the top 4 now.

The one where the Barnsley lad had an open goal from 5 yards and hit it at Kepa? Admittedly I didn't expect him to save it given his previous performances. Never a decent keeper in there for me though. Thankfully TT has clarified who is number 1!

Goalkeeping is confidence. Kepa's was shot through totally.

Look at Allison raved about by all last year, in 2 successive games he's cost Liverpool the games with stupid mistakes. De Gea got in the same position.

I'm not saying at his best Kepa is up there as world class, he's not. I don't think he's good enough to be keeper for a title winning team either. But he's not as bad as some of his mistakes have made him look. Just like Allison & DeGea. I think he mentally fragile which doesn't help as a keeper coming with a 70m price tag.

A couple of clean sheets, with some decent stops & no mistakes will help him no end, but won't make him world class.

I agree with that, but a good keeper should be dominant and commanding, in the six yard box especially, and Kepa just looks scared. Even Barnsley knew and made a point on pressuring him at corners. He may have decent reactions but in no way does he ooze confidence.

And same again, lots of possession, little done with it. CHO was awful and deserved to be a subbed sub.

That's caused quite a stir after the manager called him out on it publicly... Didn't watch enough to make my own impression, MotD will be interesting. Tuchel's not taking any prisoners though is he?...

Although my jury is still out on Tuchel, with what he said about CHO is what I've thought for a long time (perhaps publicly was a bit harsh though). Ever since the Bayern interest CHO has strolled around as though he's the real deal with an arrogance of an established, finished article. Whenever I've watched him he seems more interested in if his shorts are pulled down enough to look good and as TT has said his body language isn't good enough. Hopefully it gives him a wake-up call as there is a good player in there if he gets his attitude right something like Mount.

Predictions today?

I think Suarez could cut our nervy defense to ribbons, but Athleti have not been on form the last few weeks. The biggest difference between the two teams just seems to be confidence...Athleti always look like a determined team ready to fight it out, we have equally great players but just seems...mentally fragile right now.

I think we might do better than expected, I'm going 2-1 to them, leaving us with a fighting chance.

We seem to run out of ideas against teams who park the bus and are content to give us 80% possession and watch us tap it sideways across the midfield.

Can't see it being that sort of game tonight, so who knows. If we're still in with a chance after this leg I'll be happy though.

We're doing ok so far imho, that it is all....

In other news, this may provide something of an insight into our problems (same problem as always, what is it about us?)

Picking up yellows like this will be a problem for the return leg - no Jorg, no Mount either.

Top strike from Giroud though!

He does come up with something in big games, they just don't phase him at all. So glad he stayed
