From where we were at the end of January this is pretty much dreamland. To actually win it would be a proper bonus. If fans are allowed to attend the final, then surely the venue should be changed to accommodate fans from both teams especially in the circumstances regarding international travel. But then again .....unfortunately it's not about the fans is it.

I did think Real would manage to scrape a win somehow tonight, but they were poorer than I thought they would be. Chelsea deserved to win comfortably over the two legs.

They said on BT people are getting to go to the final?
Yes, well played Chelsea, fully deserved. Real, meanwhile, have some serious rebuilding to do. Assuming they have enough money........
Will the final still be played in Istanbul? Seems crazy dragging two English teams all that way. What if Turkey is "red listed" by then?

In one sense it seems sensible not to drag two teams to Turkey. However just imagine how many fans would travel to the ground if it was in England.

Shame to see so many negatives here; given how we started the season this is a brilliant situation and performance. We controlled the game well for the most and should have scored more. What more do you want with a new manager a few months into the job? Third in the league, with an admittedly tough run in.
But for the most we’ve looked really solid defensively no matter who’s played and what system, over time that’s allowed us to win the ball and get it quickly forward to a bunch of forwards with lots of freedom and skill.
We’ve got nothing to fear, as a one off game I see it as pretty even so bring it on and let’s hope and be happy, this is a Chelsea thread after all!

It’s strange but ....... this path to the final has been like a walk in the park...... it’s really lacked the passion, maybe the absence of fans has made the difference. Maybe Madrid are just rubbish. But this run to the final lacks the passion of beating the scousers at the 3rd attempt in a semi, or the Barcelona epics. This is not the Chelsea way.

I actually think in a one-off not a problem. But it would still lack something.

Maybe it’s because we’ve won it before. The build up in 2012 was intense as we’d got so close before but never quite made it. The first time is always the biggest thrill.

It's the lack of fans that is still killing it. Just like watching a blockbuster film with no soundtrack, technically the same but just not right. The fact there is now no good reason not to be letting fans back in makes it even worse, but that's another topic.

When Citeh were winning their CL semi I tuned into the City thread expecting to see lots of happy posts but it was very quiet there.

German resident here.

Having watched Havertz play so well in the Bundesliga it’s fantastic to see him start to fulfill his potential at Chelsea.

A very special player indeed.

He's fantastic. I don't even hold it too much against him that he should have squared it to Werner just before half time....it was good to see someone take it on and really drive at the defense with belief they would score.

(Speaking of Germans - good to see Werner score in a big game, too!)

Villa Park has been put forward to host the game, seems like UEFA aren't having any of it!

Hmmm... "The entire branding operation would have to start again from scratch, and sponsors and commercial partners would also be affected."

They won't give a fk about the fans if a change of venue would inconvenience 'sponsors and commercial partners'

The winners get €19m. The runners up get €15m. That's just the prize money. Then there's the extra we can screw out of club sponsors, pre season tour hosts, increased merchandising etc. The winners can easily double that €19m. We can moan all we want about sponsors and commercial partners, but do we want to be signing the likes of Havertz & Kante or not. We can't have it both ways.

And therein lies the hypocrisy surrounding UEFA moans about the European super league. Neither wants an upstart to join the party. A champions league in which the winner can only come from Spain, Germany, Italy or England & then only a select group from those countries, has little value. There needs to be a place for a dream. Be that Leicester, Atalanta, Celtic, Anderlecht, Galatassary,, et al. .

Well quite, although I'm not entirely convinced that structuring the whole game so that a handful of footballers can take home £300k a week is a good thing

With Turkey now moving onto the travelling red list, surely no chance it can happen there now?

Who knows? The sponsors probably need to weight up any brand damage of holding it in Turkey and what happens to existing contracts with sponsors before telling UEFA whether it's possible to move it.
