His competence however is up for question & whether that competence is influenced in any way. He has got too many decisions plain wrong in Chelsea games, including 2 FA Cup finals. hopefully its just bad luck. All referees make mistakes & its entirely understandable that they will.
After he last night "sent-off" a Kiev player for a 2nd yellow when he hadn't given him a first..... maybe I should just say he's incompetent.

Anyhow Lukaku starting to look value. Mount was dire. Why does Reece continually check back when he is capable of great whipped crosses? Good to see RLC get on, maybe a chance for him yet.

The passing forwards from midfield into attack last night was just awful.

Highlight of the night - the Rüdiger run. Would have been nice to see that come off.

You serious about mount? He won so many tackles last night.

He did, but his final ball was exceptionally poor all night, which is unlike him. I like him by the way but an off night.

Fans back in the stadiums, 3 points at Spurs. Normality really has returned.

It’s the hope that kills them……..

…that 2nd half was pretty good. Thiago is just sheer class.

There must be some sort of typo on his birth certificate, because I refuse to believe he is days away from his 37th birthday.

The classic game of 2 halves. 1st half was a real battle, but Kante's introduction as the best pest in the world totally threw them. Suddenly he was breaking up their play before it got going. That was the platform for our total domination. Silva was immense, still world class, just a shame Lloris was on top form or he would have had another goal.

Felt for Marcos Alonso, would have walked man of the match normally, he was just great.

On a good day with a fair wind it could have been 5 or 6 goals

Enjoyed the away experience at Spurs, nice pie, very little in the way of waiting for beer or food, awesome atmosphere, Northumberland park was painfully slow on the way out and I would recommend anyone walk to another station on another “away visit”

The spuds were never going to keep up the pace and effort made in the first 25 mins.

Defence wise we must be the best in Europe at the moment, so solid.

Bit of a battle tonight, but thru on pens. Southampton at home next round.

Any one know how many pen shootouts the club has been involved in. We must have a pretty good record now. That's 2 won this season, super cup and Villa tonight, the one before that was spurs in the league cup semi I think, which we won. Obviously we lost v Man Utd in the 08 CL final, but won the 2012 CL one against Munich. Then lost the super cup in 2012 when Lukaku missed the vital pen. But overall we must be over 50% success rate.

I think we are pretty st at penalty shoot outs!
  • Lost 1 Champions League final on penalties
  • Lost to the Scouse in Champions League SF on penalties
  • Lost 2 Super leagues on penalties
  • Lost 1 league cup final on penalties
  • Lost to the spuds last year on penalties
  • Lost 2 or 3 Charity shields on penaltues
Actually just found the data 23 shoot outs lost 14...39% success rate, up from 33% at the begining of the season.

Thanks for that. The first one I can recall was an FA Cup game away at Newcastle, which we won. So if that was the first, we had a 100% success rate after that. So the only way was down.

We've won 5 of the last 8, OK and better than the 3 out 13 before that

No art to penalties to me and I'd rather not be in them at all.

I noticed Kepa was getting told to stop winding up the villa players so I expect his tactics are getting noticed.

Of course there's an art to it. It's the ultimate test of nerve and skill. Matt LeTissier scored 49 out of 50 career pens. That wasn't luck.
