Another quite woeful performance, only consolation was Leeds were worse.

Potter has had the team for what 6 months now. There is no discernable shape, structure or style of play. There is no evolution to a style of play. Everything seems random. The players look clueless at times because I don;t think they know what he is trying to achieve. In the past with poor managers (Grunt) there were enough strong experienced characters to almost cover the lack of poor coaching, through reverting to what they knew.

Now we have a group of generally young players, playing together for the first time with no muscle memory to rely on. Grunt was a JT slip from winning the Champions League by playing Mourinhio’s team & letting them play they way they knew.

Potter has no idea. He is used to getting average results with average players. That is good enough at an average club. He’s been given some the highest rated young talent he hasn’t a clue how to shape it Yes he does need a true forward but he has Aubameyang & Fofana and doesn’t play them. It’s insanity to keep playing without a striker & expecting it somehow to come good. Without one pulling defenders around or making runs of course the play is all going to be backwards & sideways…. There’s no forward outlets. Why play a back 4 with Chilwell & James? It’s a waste. 3 at the back all day with that pair on the pitch.

The squad has nobody that can voice how dismal it is with potter based on age/experience.

Drogs/Lamps/JT never put up with this ste.

Add in Cech & Ballack & that group lead the team to within a whisker of the title & CL. The strength & character of the spine of that team is in sharp contrast to where we are now. It was basically the special one who developed that character. We need a manager who can rebuild that character. It ain’t Potter.

A win papers over the Grand Canyon sized cracks. He (Potter) simply isn’t good enough for this job at this point in his career. He seems also to lack the insight to realise that perhaps this is a job too big for him and Boehly is idiotic enough to let him try to learn on the job. I agree that if the team had a JT and Lamps we would be fine, but we don’t. The real leaders, like Rudiger left last season and we are missing Kante.

Currently playing rubbish and winning works for me,
as I cannot see anything in the way of progress since before the World Cup, maybe some wins will bring their own continuity.

Injuries and lack of time with the squad is an argument which has a shelf life
And if i hear the words suffering one more time from potty mouth… banghead

Potter knows what words he's going to use after a match at half time.

Not really, encroachment was pretty clear as was the pen in the first place - plus Chelsea the better team so far

Thought we were the better side across both legs of the tie. Soft pen and I can't remember the last retake for encroachment but that's the bit of luck needed.

Can we build on it?!

Will take it. For me the CL is just something more special than other matches so I’m very pleased we’re still in the competition. Getting to the point where each game is a bit of “you never know”……

If the pen goes wide, or the keeper saves it, there's no retake, as both teams were encroaching. But if an encroaching player clears the ball or scores, then it's a retake. Even if other players were encroaching. That's the rule, as of about 2 seasons ago.

Do you need them in the goal for it to be clear or something?

I think we was the most likely of the two teams to win last night but if we aren't clinical enough we'll bomb out in the next round.

It will be nice to sit back and watch the spuds roast in the oven tonight.....

For some reason considering Potter had supposedly never seen a champions league match before, all of the teams best performances have been in Europe. Thinking Home & away against Milan & Dortmund.

It's always nice in the KO stages to be up first qualify & sit back & enjoy the rest of the games knowing jobs done.

Yup, it is certainly pleasing to know we'll be in the draw for the next round - do we know when the draw takes place?
