I think it's easy to get carried away with Cole so far.

He's not been to the World Cup, not played European games or had to endure too many Southgate friendlies.

Cole will be kicking at Saka's heels thats for sure. Maddison seems to be more highly rated than palmer, I don't watch Spuds FC but is he?
Maddison is 27, he should be at or near his peak. Palmer is 21.

Palmer is scoring for fun at present. Yes we've all seen flash in the pans before. But I don't recall a 21 year old at Chelsea doing the stuff consistently like he has. The only thing I've noticed is a tendency to try too much. I wonder sometimes if he's just too confident. Yes he scores penalties, but some of them have been high pressure ones. Think the City or Utd ones He doesn't score many tap-ins. They are mostly quality goals. If you can't get carried away by Palmer then I'm not sure what will get you carried away.

Question for the forum blues: Who should go at the end of the season? Who CAN go at the end of the season with the ridiculous wage structure we have put in place? Who might HAVE to go to satisfy FFP?

Jackson, Mudryk and Sterling all seem like obvious "outs" but it gets muddier in defense and midfield. Almost everyone has had absolute howlers, giving the ball in dangerous spaces or just switching off and ignoring their opponents movement, but I wouldn't rate any as outright "donkeys" and on paper the potential is there...
Sterling definitely. Mudryk & Jackson no.

Mudryk is really finding his feet of late making good contributions. Is he worth 80m... no.... but we'd not get that for him anyway. He doesn't track back & always seems to leave the left back exposed, but thats fixable (maybe).

Jackson (Monday nights shenaighans aside) has something. He's only 22. I'm not sure he is a natural goal scorer but he does some good stuff, running at defences & good link up play. If he bulks up a little he will scare a lot of defenders.

Unfortunately if we have to release players then they will need to come from the home grown contingent. I guess Hall is gone to Newcastle already. Maatsen will be headed to Dortmund. Broja will have takers. Chabolah seemed out of favour & I think has too many mistakes in him to really be top drawer.

Ziyech, Kepa, Lukaku will all go but raise little.

Adam.

You might not want them but the club needs to look at the finances for each. You need to look at fee paid and contract length.

IIRC you signed Mudryk for 90m on a 8.5 year contract in 2023, so you would have only written off about £16m by this summer. If you sell him for less than £74m this summer you will have have to crystallise a loss in the P&L which makes FFP worse not better.

In other bizarre news you have extended his contract, presumably to reduce the annual write off to P&L for the next few years to help FFP, until the rules get watered down:

Yep, the goings on are quite bizarre and a player being crap is no longer enough reason to sell them. I guess that all clubs now do this to a degree, but betting on currently mediocre players with ridiculously long deals seems an odd way to do business.

We'll definitely end up selling players that the manager would want to keep in the summer

They may just have to sell a few more hotels to themselves to get them through PSR this year

Would be easier if they were owned by a murderous state and could sponsor themselves, but the hotels will have to do

Doesn't Todd Bohely have a stake in Chelsea's current shirt sponsor?

Maatsen I'd consider bringing back, he scored last night and looked to run the field for 90 mins thats for sure.

Win win if he dosn't as we'll get 40/50 I expect for him.

Where's twigthewonderland and 968 moaning after the game tonight, I actually think they'd find fault in tonight still.
Sorry, was in the USA. Watched the game in an English pub in Tennessee at 2pm. Great performance, penalty debacle aside.

There's a strong chance the Saudis do own chelsea or at least a large part of it.

Also remember a guy called Roman Abromavich?

Suggestions here that Kepa influenced the decision for the RM goalie to not move for Silva's down the middle penalty last night, after Silva did the same thing back in the 2019 EFL final which we lost to City on penalties.

So happy that Ar5e went out. Still the only London club to win it. And hopefully City's 120 mins plus pens and losing will take it's toll on saturday. That was the perfect outcome of that match for us, them losing on pens after extra time.

Feeling quietly confident also, but as ever it is the hope that kills you in the end.

Echo the above, almost looking forward to extra time as city should be too tired and in the worse case just to see if all our front line players are as eager to take a pen, and deliver the goals, when it actually counts ?

Sterling
Jackson
Madueke
Palmer
Gallagher

I’d actually get de-silva and chilli into that top 5 list if it was my job on the line
not so sure where murdryke sits and gusto would be my 6 with Chucky also getting a look in if he gets 20 minutes or more on the pitch and plays well.

5 quid says now that some “forward stars” ( as they see themselves )
begin to show a little bit cramping to get themselves of out the firing line towards the end.

Also good that the Goonies and Cites, and West Spam all went out as the Spuds won't qualifying finishing 5th again like in 2012.

Christ I could have scored that - why has he not hit it with his left when he's gone around the keeper?
