Sorry guys I know I'm starting to sound like a moaning old fart, but after 40 years supporting Liverpool I have finally realised we are now just a mid table club who punch above their weight a few times nowadays.

More likely to be feeling a bit of an idiot for not having played better.

If we usually finished mid table, I might agree with that. But we don't. Unless we punch above our weight often enough to end up in the top 6 more often than not.

From the few bits I saw, he had a very ordinary game. It looked like a great opportunity to show what he could offer, but he didn't do himself any favours.

surely thats the point though you dont punch above your weight you dont even punch your weight you punch below your weight pretty much year in year out.

its a strange situation doesnt seem to matter how much you throw at it or who you appoint, pretty much everyone thought that klopp was the answer but he really looks exposed.

My wife is sat watching this and even she could see they were going to score then. Hopeless.
Did she see the second coming?

86 shots in the last 4 games, 3 goals...

Leicester - 3 shots on target, 2 goals
Sevilla - 2 shots on target, 2 goals
Burnley - 4 shots on target, 1 goal
Man City - 10 shots on target, 5 goals

Based on last 4 games if the opposition get a shot on goal they have a little over 50% chance of scoring.

Same issues as has been covered many times in defence, and up front they seem to have not very much clue on playing together (the amount of passes to someone that didn't run who should have/ should have waited who did run). Plus the usual issue with not having a clue how to get through a crowded box.

We're the 4th biggest spenders. We're punching under our weight compared to average spend over quite a lot of seasons.

As an Arsenal fan I'd like to see him do well...but to be honest I am not sure he will. He's capable of some sublime moments but has always lacked end product whether that's goals or assists. Yes he's played in an ordinary Arsenal team but Walcott (who lets face it has his own issues) at the same age as him had twice as many goals/assists for Arsenal. He's a very frustrating player ! Hopefully Klopp will bring the best out of him.

Agree we're under achieving - that's the opposite of being an "occasionally over achieving mid table team". We should be much better.

Even Klopp sounded very peed off with the way the goals were conceded and not scoring in the first half.

Bad injuries and long recovery time - he's lost a good couple of years development time. There were flashes of the solid right back in there but he gave the ball away far too often.

For all the jokes about it, and of course we want to win matches it could be a big help later to avoid congestion. Particularly with the way we play, where it will tire players out over a season with a lot of games. May make the difference later on, as seen when you see how avoiding Europe has generally been a big help to teams the season after.

OX is an average player why are people surprised he hasn't set the world on fire? He never has!!

Flanagan defensively was great was very low on confidence going forward! Robertson had a decent game!

For me Hendo really showed the youngsters what it's all about tonight, his work rate all the way to the final whistle was great!

Ward had a good game aswell, deserves a mention!!

Lets hope us going out of this cup will mean fresher legs and less travel!

I'm not that fussed we're out of that cup. We played a lot of prospects and they weren't good enough to get past a Prem team. Lets be honest, this cup is the lowest of our priorities this season.

Still, would have been nice to have had an easier opponent like Barnsley to thump with our kids. I bet Spurs hammered them - anyone know the score?

Lots of positives from the game too. Ings looked great, Solanke is great, Woodburn continues to impress and Ward look just as good as our other two goalies (faint praise).
