Stonewall pen for me, and he could have gone too. His touch on the ball was minimal and totally uncontrolled, I wouldn't call it a tackle. swept through Vardy on the follow through.
But he saved the pen, which is probably because he did his homework. Saved your points, keeps you in touch. I think you are fighting for fourth is season and it's points like this that will get you there.
If the person tackling gets ball first, regardless of whether he then makes contact with the player, its not a penalty (or a free kick or anything else). Unless the law has changed in the last few years. In which case the law is an ass once again. If you get the ball first, that's you doing your job FFS. Clearly Mings was fired up for the penalty as a result. He had a decent game and didn't make a mistake yesterday. Maybe being rotated suits him.But he saved the pen, which is probably because he did his homework. Saved your points, keeps you in touch. Do you not think that he way weak for Vardy's headed goal. It was a decent shot but poor from Mignolet to push it onto Vardy's head I thought.Flip Martian said:

It has, there is no consideration of whether ball has been touched, been seen often where player tackles gets ball but then momentum takes out opposition playerhttp://resources.fifa.com/mm/document/footballdeve...

Direct free kick
A direct free kick is awarded if a player commits any of the following offences
against an opponent in a manner considered by the referee to be careless,
reckless or using excessive force:
• charges
• jumps at
• kicks or attempts to kick
• pushes
• strikes or attempts to strike (including head-butt)
• tackles or challenges
• trips or attempts to trip
If an offence involves contact it is penalised by a direct free kick or penalty kick.
• Careless is when a player shows a lack of attention or consideration when making a challenge or acts without precaution. No disciplinary sanction is needed
• Reckless is when a player acts with disregard to the danger to, or consequences for, an opponent and must be cautioned
• Using excessive force is when a player exceeds the necessary use of force and/or endangers the safety of an opponent and must be sent off
A direct free kick is awarded if a player commits any of the following offences:
• handles the ball deliberately (except for the goalkeeper within their penalty area)
• holds an opponent
• impedes an opponent with contact
• spits at an opponent

Wonder what VVD makes of our defence? Does he watch us and think playing alongside them clowns will make me look ste as well? Or does he believe he could fix things? Presumably the latter as he supposedly still wants to join us.. My worry is if it drags on too long he gets cold feet thinking it could be too much of a risk for his future career ( both domestic and International) if he joins us, If we get him we can try to build a spine around him, I also reckon Matip will learn a lot from him (Lovren and Klaven are probably lost causes realistically) Robertson at left back and Clyne at right back (once he's fit) Surely this is do-able and not rocket science (provided we can get VVD) Or maybe we keep doing things the Klopp way by banging square plugs into round holes and grinning constantly and saying 'our defence is just fine'. Please Mr Klopp fix this defence.

I thought he did well to save it - but granted, goalies are surely taught never to parry the ball across your own goal (I remember being taught that when I was 8 or 9 at school!). At least he got in the way of it - should the goal have been left gaping open by the rest of the defence? Probably not.Adam B said:

Thanks for that. They're really trying to take the contact out of what has always been a contact sport. I love all the regs about not holding an opponent - and yet that goes on every week at every corner and free kick!http://resources.fifa.com/mm/document/footballdeve...

It was a pen. We'd have been going nuts if Kasper had done the same.
The goal from the corner was straightforward st defending. Migs was lucky that Okazaki stayed on his feet while he was being pulled back or that could have been a pen and a red.
He got a good hand on the Gray shot and would have done very well indeed to have deflected it up and over rather than across, it was a good parried save.
Vardy's penalty would have broken my arm.

The Top 5 in the table as of right now could be how it finishes up at the end of the season!
Agreed. Although I think we're lucky to be 5th! Things need to change for us to pip Spurs to 4th. We are lucky they can't play at Wembley.jammy-git said:

Thought for the day (according to me) - we're really missing Clyne.
I have thought Gomez has looked out of his depth in the last couple of games. Certainly not as good as he was pre-injury.TAA looks really raw too, as you'd expect.
We might have to wait until next year for oir much needed solidity. Robertson will have had a year to develop, we'll have signed a new CB, Matip can be good, Clyne will be back and Keita will offer a shield alongside Henderson. Maybe.
