Champions League is the same as any other competition - you try and beat what's in front of you. However, we also had to get into the CL, which we did. These are all positives; whether Maribor are a big team or not. No-one is suggesting it was the same as playing Bayern Munich.

I think you have to look at who you were playing compared to most of the other teams in action last night.
Real Madrid weren't able to keep a clean sheet against similar competition.jammy-git said:

I thought Can played really well last night, I was watching him off the ball and he did really well, filling in for Moreno when he was attacking, sitting deep enough to help at the back and then when he did get the ball he made a few good runs forward but also had his head up looking to play a pass... I thought he was far better than Henderson has been in that position for quite some time.
Ditto with Milner, we looked better when Henderson wasn't playing.
He covers in number 6 a lot better - but hard to really tell last night as they didnt attack that much Ditto with Milner, we looked better when Henderson wasn't playing.
I have a horrible feeling if he went to Juve and played number 6 in a year or 2 we would be looking back with deep regret.
6 to me was always Alan Hansen.

What's a 6?

Sitting midfielder in a 4 3 36 to me was always Alan Hansen.
I think he's more forward looking than Henderson but doesn't possess the passing range of an Alonso.
He obviously has ambition and aspirations of dining at the top table - hence the hold on his contract. Not sure he sees himself sat in front of a back four watching Keita et al buzzing about. The Matic role, if you like.

Real Madrid weren't able to keep a clean sheet against similar competition.Reading all the comments and enjoying the thread. I have one thing to add and that is Henderson. I think his work rate is one of the highest in the team and similar to Milners but they are very different approaches to the game (probably by instruction). Henderson's roal seems to be breaking up the attacks, protecting the back and distributing the ball however what has changed is his forward passes and runs- they seem literally non existent. His passes are just sideways now and he is very reluctant to have a go or take a shot, all of which just slows the game right down. Milner on the other hand loves getting forward and whipping balls into the box and as a result, the team seems so much more fluid and exciting.
Just my thoughts and I often think Hendo's contribution rarely gets a mention but something has changed about him and I think it's his confidence on the ball perhaps
