Actually it was all 3

Lovren should not have done what he did
Gomez should have been in line
Migs should have stayed

If you were Klopp, who would you start at the back 5 against Huddersfield on the weekend?

The difference between top top players a lot of time is not just ability its making the right decisions at the right time - we have to many players that switch off far too often - you see Lovren against UTD, gave Lukaku 0 sniff all day, he was pumped you could see the difference, against Spurs polar opposite
mate - you and I could have played CB and not give Lukaku a sniff. Lovren gets little credit for that - 6 touches in our area for the whole game!! JM did the impossible and made our defence look good.

Man Utd played boring negative tactics to get a draw, Spurs attacked with pace and in numbers and played to win - that was the difference.

(but I agree with the general point, that there seems to be a lack of concentration)

I'm not sure how much blame can be put on Lovren for the first goal. If he's touch-tight he either has to bring Kane down and give away a freekick (probably the best option), or he's going to lose against Kane in a sprint back when the ball gets played into the space behind.

Ideally I would have said the defensive line should have been on the edge of the area, eliminating the space behind and the midfield should have been marking people up for the throw-in. But again, that's not really Lovren's fault, more the system we play.

Gomez and the Goalie were more to blame for that goal.
I may be remembering incorrectly but gomez and Matip held the line and Lovren dived forward to 'play offside' on his own.

And the goalie was average to poor.

In answer to the question about who would you play at the back

TAA until Clyne returns
Matip
Gomez
Robertson. Maybe Milner.

Ming in goal.

The same Huddersfield that gave Utd their first defeat of the season? I think a back 11 is in order...

You can, he goes too far forward, ahead of Matip

Forget Gomez as harry is in line with Matip so even if Gomez had been level it would have made no difference - Lovren had gone 2 maybe 1 yard ahead of Matip when not watching Kane...

No gomez wasnt holding the line, if he'd been level with Matip and Loveren then Kane would have been off. Inexcusable given he was looking right down the line.

And the goalie killed everyone with what he did.

Wrong - kane was level with Matip - made no difference in reality

I'm so glad the match didn't provide any controversial decisions, you lot would still be arguing about it at Christmas.

Good read though.

I can't find a proper clip on line but Lovren is nowhere near where the others are in terms of a defensive line.

And the keeper was pants.

enjoy - you will see Lovren goes far to far forward leaving Kane, even if all 3 were in a line doing that with the right run and ball you are getting caught....

Matip is already forward, Lovren moves forward just before Kane makes his run and it's actually Matip who first calls for offside.

Gomez has no business being that far back as the furthest one from the ball. He should at least be in line with Matip, if not further forward.

This is a better video, has replays from 45s on. Gomez is just about to step up when the ball is played.

I am no football coach but in that clip I see Lovren playing like a headless chicken, a job normally reserved for Moreno.

He makes 0 difference though, kane is in line with Matip, so its irrelevant if Gomez is behind him or not, lovren should not be ahead of Matip and Gomez should not be behind matip but in reality kane was level with Matip at the time the ball was played...

Does it not kill you picking each defender apart one by one?

You know what they say? The trick to forgetting the big picture is to look at everything close-up.

He is... he did anything but defend as a CB - blaming Gomez is madness, yes he was further back but he didnt play him on Matip did...

Lovren's effort at keeping with Kane reminded me of something from a field on Sunday....
