So this is the goalkeeper we're apparently going to try and sign in the summer.

Imagine Salah or Mane running on to this goalkick...

I wonder if Roma will be feeling sore that Salah went for a song, I doubt we'll get anymore bargains off them.

I don't think anyone is trying to summarise the whole game of football, but it helps to shine a light on what is happening at a micro level.

I'll leave 'em on Reddit from now on!
I like 'em,keep them coming. It's only people that don't understand them that don't like them.

please do

we all know Firmino is a very good player, and a lot of his work is unseen as its not necessarily goals and assists, but producing a bunch of stats which try to lay claim he is better than Kane or Aguero is just embarrassing IMHO

You're reading far too much in to. I posted it with no context, so I wasn't trying to claim he's better than anyone. The stats show he tackles more and has more assists, but I'm sure that's more down to our playing style and the job he's been asked to do more than anything else.

They took €20m off us for Aquilani - I think Salah makes it even

all IMHO but it was nonsense stats without that context, and just gives the WUMs another excuse to laugh at deluded LFC fans - which is best avoided to keep the debate interesting here

anyway no biggie

A little bit condescending maybe (probably like this post) but it's not nonsense.

These stats aren't meaningless, if you interpret them well you can gain some useful information. EG Firmino is more likely to make a tackle/assist compared to the other strikers on the list, this might be useful information to somebody making bets or playing fantasy football.

Like people are saying, you can manipulate stats to prove most things (the colours in that table are guilty of this IMO) but if you interpret them well, stats like these can be useful.

Tiny edges are really important in the long run, it's easy to give yourself a negative edge by interpreting stats badly though.

I'm happy to see them. It's more correct than the often posted "we have more injuries than others" that everyone who is behind in the League seems to post. Or the Spuds saying United only play boring and don't attack (despite United having more goals than them - it's just in the big games they sit back). Or the "we have 38 games away from home".

It can make it clear what the different roles for people are - in this case it is clear Firmino does a different type of role to most strikers that he is compared to in the list. I think one of the Spuds said Salah was the focus point of all our attacks, hence him getting so many goals. I'd suspect Stats would show Kane is a much bigger focus point in their team, and that would indicate if he is injured they'd had a bigger issue than us.

Kane's stats are some of the most interesting of all that I've seen recently; lots of goals obviously, but miles behind other strikers in the league in terms of assists, shot conversion rate and as a result a huge number more shots than the other strikers.

It doesn't mean the other strikers are better or tell you anything else with any certainty, but how can you not find that interesting? Would spurs be fked without Kane, or would other players get more shots? Might those other players be more clinical than Kane? Does he ever pass when near the box an assist the assister, or is he a greedy git? Why has he been allowed to shoot 130 times in the league this year? Is that really right, how do they decide what's a shot anyway? Ultimately does it suggest a method for stopping Spurs from beating you, or do they have a plan B?

Honestly surprised by the hostility towards numbers on here, given everyone in the real world I know that likes football is obsessed with their Fantasy League team.

I think Kane is a decent finisher, but I am sure his excellent goal tally is down to a number of additional factors - Spurs create a lot of chances, they will always look for Kane given his stats, Kane has probably been told his job is to be selfish, shoot and score etc

Reckon Spuds would miss him more than us losing Firmino, although we are not blessed with options since PC left, Sturridge is injured/out of favour, and Solanke is yet to convince

Why do we care about Kane? He plays for another team. Why should we care about if he passes near the box? You think spurs fans are fussed about Firminos throw in stats? hehe

Obviously stat analysis has a place if you work at a football club. For me personally, as a just a fan, it doesn't interest me too much.

As I said before, 3 points is the stat that concerns me.

I was happy to scroll past until we were told that if we didn't like stats, it was because we're too stupid to understand them.

I just said they don't interest me, especially those of other clubs players (in depth analysis of Kane in this instance), but I'm perfectly capable of understanding them.

At no point did I ask or expect, any other poster to stop posting them.

So, tonight, strangely I'm oober confident it'll be an easy win but at the same time I'm thinking it could also easily be one of them dominating games where we just can't stick the ball between the posts and yet the opposition manage to in the last 10 minutes (touch wood that doesn't happen).

Swa 0 - 3 Liv wink
