Yep,Excellent all tournament .

In other news quite a few of the promising kids (Chong,Gomes etc) are being taken on the club tour of the USA ,look forward to seeing them get some game time.
Pogba is a quality player. Looking forward to watching him grow next season.

It's right to be optimistic about the kids but Perreira had a really good pre-season tour last year and moved out on loan. frown

Do France use him better? with Kante and Matuidi basically all over the pitch, does that allow him a bit more freedom?

Matic is what you would call a DM but he is nowhere near as athletic and mobile as Kante -
don't know anything about Fred, is he box2box bit like Matuidi and sharp into the challenge/tackle?

And this is the first summer he hasn't batted his eye lids at us. He had his spell with us and it was fabulous. We've a fresh Sanchez to look forward to next season. He will be far more effective than he was last.

Yes I think that's a fair comment. Were still trying to get that balance.

Fred is a box to box CM, can play at CDM or play in a midfield 3 on the outside right position. He'll be a threat to Herrera I should imagine. He is good at winning the ball back, carrying and distributing. Was looking forward to seeing him at the WC but he didn't get 1 minute on the pitch as far as I know.

Sanchez was awful for us last year. He needs to up his game based on what we are paying him. IMO a panic buy but I'll get behind him in the new season.

Right, that’s all done with. Back to what really matters. Who are we signing?

We should have signed Perisic.

The only upside is that we can still sing world champions twice.

Given it seems he might still be with us then he's clearly getting it out of his system before the league starts...

I wish!

Practice makes perfect, he’ll be exceptional at dropping them soon and never catch another shot again

Harry Maguire accoriding to the mail. I'd be delighted with that but given that he's only just moved to leceister seems unlikely. But we need a centre back. He's kept jones out of the England squad and Smalling didn't even make it. Both those two can be improved upon.

Right back already in. Cover for Valencia in Diogo Dalot.

Left back. Either Shaw is going to get backed or there's a left back also coming. Young will miss the start of the season if patterns following previous world cups are followed.

Midfield, Fred will be it I think unless Mata and Herrera move on. We need some stability there.

Upfront. Lukaku is going to be fked if he's used like last season. So is he going to back Martial and Rashford to deputise? I think Jose will want some experience there as cover as well so I can see a hard working veteran coming in to fill the Zlatan hole...

Width. This is where the gossip will be. Willian? Bale?

Either way it's going to be a bloody short silly season then probably a st load of nonsense about who is going to leave to go to a European club on the 31st of August leaving us severely weakened because of the ridiculous decision to shorten the window.

Was talking to my mates during the Croatia game and we agreed that Maguire is a similar defender to Vidic. Doesn't have loads of skill but is a solid defender who is great from set pieces and doesn't take any st. Along side Bailly they could be a great partnership imo.

I'd prefer to drop 50m on Maguire at his age than Alderweireld tbh.

Agreed. Got more than a touch of Steve Bruce about him. Been difficult not to read a lot about him over the last few weeks all of it good.

First time I saw Maguire playing for Hull a few years ago I said he was a United player in the making. It's his destiny to play for us. smile

This. I remember the game, and remember thinking he looks bloody good for a big lad (he was carrying more weight then).

McGuire for me also if we actually do need a central defender and as long as Phil Jones sold on. According to the internet he's anything from 6ft2 to 6ft4 and 79kg to 100kg. Take your pick but he's a decent size and build and can play a ball out rather than hoofing it.
Him over the older Spud would be better.
Willian please if poss and then get rid of any dead wood.

Defo. I'd be happy with Maguire and Willian.

We paid £13.8m.

Personally, I didn't think we would get anything like that so good business.

In todays market it's a not huge amount of money for a proven player, not the quickest but he's better on the ball than most defenders and reads the game well.

And despite interest from other clubs great to see him go back to Ajax on an age were he can still add something, a rare sight these days.

Was a never a fit in Mourinho's line-up given his preference for big/physical defenders who can't play footy.

Good business I think. He's not done much and wouldn't get in front of some of the more recent players. Money in the bank for Jose to play with where we need it now.
