If Jose managed to get this United squad to finish second in the league, how ste must the rest be?
Lack of competition, since apart from Tottenham and Liverpool, the rest were cxxp, where were Arsenal, Everton and Chelsea were well below par, possibly the poorest Premiership season i can remember.

You can’t compre SAF’s start to Mourinho’s. Not only is the game completely different but the make up of the club, expectations and recent history are as far removed as they possibly could be.
Expectations are higher now than when Fergie took over. We were very happy to get to a cup final :-)
He has sort of ruined it in a nice way for any other manager who will follow him, forever !

Seriously? One of the best I can remember. 4 strong teams.
Leicester won the league not long ago! Now THAT was a terrible season. All the big sides took the year off.

I see you’ve ignored Arsenal, looks like the bitterness runs deep in North London

Of course Chelsea don’t want him, he’s been there twice and they’ve dispensed with him and other title / Cup winning managers almost immediately.

City wouldn’t want anyone but their current title winning manager

Why would you or Liverpool say you wanted him? That would undermine all your arguments. Plus managers don’t move between United and Liverpool anyway.
This.

I've never actually criticised his style at UTD unlike others, winning or not. He's very effective. "If it wasn't for those pesky kids" we gathered enough points last year to have won the league in many seasons, he got more than Fergie did in some of his winning years.

There are very few managers upto the task of managing Utd, he is, and I'm happy with him. If in 2 or 3 years we haven't uplifted this squad and started to get close to the league again then maybe his time and chance will be up. Till then we should get behind him and the team and back them 100%
And definitely this. beer

It does get very negative in here at times. We are all realists but let's not forget we support probably the biggest and best supported club in the world. It can't possibly be all good all the time but we get a great ride along :-)

Let me qualify my posts.

I have said all
Along that I don’t want Mourinho at our club, but I understand why we need him after the disasters that were Moyes and LVG. However, I’d like to see more football being played, when we did we were excellent. However, that was often borne out of necessity rather than from the get go.

For example, the second half at the Enptyhad was great football, but we only did it because we were dead and buried if we didn’t. He’d never have played like that from the first minute, which is what pisses me off.

I want to see more football and a more attacking mindset before I’ll be more upbeat about him. If we win the PL with negative football then I’ll be torn as winning he title again would be fantastic, but it would also foster the idea of playing negative ste which isn’t (or shouldn’t be) acceptable at United.

I agree with that sentiment. I genuinely don’t think it would take a lot to start playing some football. We have the players for it!

Todays news is...there is no news on signings.
The press however short of stories are concentrating on Jose and his moods as usual however one of the BBC footy stories suggests the actual mood in the camp at training appears great and every one is relaxed. I'm inclined to think Jose has his "press face" on most of the time we get to see or hear anything... :-)

It’s hard not to be bothered by his negative attitude, but I guess what really matters is how he is behind closed doors. I really don’t understand the attacks on players, though - I think that shows a really poor understanding of how fragile young men typically are.

Yes to be fair his "reverse psychology" doesn't appear to be that effective on them.

Has he had a go at you're captain publicly too?

Seems that clearly Woodward/JM relationship isnt there or Woodward didnt fancy JM list of names. I know many utd fans also question if Woodward as an operator. Great at finding brand partners, not the best at landing key signings.

One article i read said the problem is JM wants older players Woodward wants to sign younger players.

Certainly seems to be a kind of momentum building which isnt positive for JM, mind a few good results and everything would be forgotten. To me it feels like he knows others will start better than he will and he getting the excuses in quick.

One point id make is looking from the outside, look at Mo Po (love that name for him) at Spurs vs JM at Utd. Both have players away at World Cup, both havent got the signings they want. JM is pretty much starting a civil war, Mo Po just getting on with it. I get it different styles, and even as LFC fan, i always respect JM record, he is a winner but one wonders if his methods faced with what we all face, a City side with huge budget, huge squad, scoring 4 goals a game it seems, it those methods will be enough to match that.

He's too long in the tooth to change too much. However that also applies to winning stuff, so we live in hope!

criticised Valencia for coming back overweight.

Fair shout for me. There are those on here that lept on Shaw and Rooney for apparently being overweight. Jose should be able to trust his captain to lead by example.

Does he need to do that in public though - why not just pull him in a meeting and deal with it

If you had a boss that publicly shat on you like that you would leave.
