It's not just agents though, it was the clubs as well. I saw some programme a few years ago where a player was told if you want ANYTHING, contact the club - an electrician, plumber, contact the club - they have a preferred list etc that won't take sneaky selfies in your swimming pool or rifle through your WAG's knicker drawer.
You don't go to the local car showroom - THEY drive a selection of cars TO YOU (mind you, with money to burn, if I was the dealer, I'd be only to happy to do that!)

That’s the challenge. Do you want to negotiate based on how much someone else is earning or your true value? Agents prey on this and their ability to tie up lucrative commercial contracts. Those sometimes prevent a player from moving to one club as the club is sponsored by a competitor. That’s complete bks IMO.
The other thing is that agents literally have people who do everything for a footballer. As franki says, some footballers can’t boil a kettle without help.
Doesn't Lewis Hamilton negotiate all his own contracts, including image rights etc? Can't be that difficult surely. The other thing is that agents literally have people who do everything for a footballer. As franki says, some footballers can’t boil a kettle without help.
Agents are leeches who don't give a st about the player, just how they can instigate a move etc so they can make more on fees.

More of that boo hoo st from Pogba then. However, Scholes, like many ex-players has nothing interesting to say - great player but he could send a glass eye to sleep.GTO-3R said:

You'd think there could be a place in football for a decent agent, a guy that just wants to earn a fair wage without having to push his players on every couple of years.
I'd genuinely be content with somewhere between £50k - £100k a year just to set these deals up and have a happy player / happy club / happy agent relationship. I met an agent last year who looks after three Premier League players and he seemed a nice enough bloke but I fear he was the exception rather than the rule. All the major big name agents seem to be shysters.
Roy Keane / GNev has the right idea. Employ a top top top level solicitor and pay their hourly rate. Gary Neville's dad Neville was his agent IIRC, or at least advised him.
He was an accountant or similar IIRC. Maybe I’m confising him with Scholes. Either way, their approach should be recommended by clubs and legal firms should push their services too. The issue is the mouthy agents get all the publicity and look like they’re the best to reperesent you. jammy-git said:

Neville Neville?I knew Neville in a business capacity for nearly forty years, he was a decent guy, how many dads have had three children who were all England internationals?

And you know that how exactly?
By understanding how client/agent relationships work and commission structures. The clubs are paying the agent and the player. So what they are paying the agent, they aren't paying the player. The agent earns commission and therefore it's in their interest to get the best deal possible for their client. The club don't care how the fees/salaries/bonuses are split, just the total cost to them. Ultimately the best possible deal for the player is one where he gets all the money that the club pays, not one where a third party are getting a cut and reducing his return. If a club are only prepared to pay £100k a week and the player's agent wants 10%, then the player will only receive ~£90k. If he didn't have an agent, he'd get the full £100k.

You will never have the domination you had under fergie ever again, it's over, done, your time is up, you'll win a thing here and there but the heyday is in the past, the wheels are coming off the bandwagon and the rest of the world is happy.
Oh my poor feelings! How hurtful. Utd are an absolute mess and still finished above every club except City last year. All the other clubs must be really st.

Did you really take the time to sit and type that out on another club thread to specifically look like a child on school hols? Grow up ffs. Back to reality, dirty Leeds appear to be on the rise, assuming they come up and assuming we don't get relegated (what with the wheels coming off and everyone else being happy..) We could be in for some fabulous feisty fun next season!!! I used to enjoy Utd v Leeds matches, we had some big rivalries for a few seasons :-)
