Will VAR Change Football for the Better?

There's also the case where in the same round of a cup competition, some grounds will have VAR technology and use it while others won't. That's simply unfair.
My local team Bristol City host Manchester City in the FA Cup last sixteen in a fortnight's time. I'm fairly sure that VAR won't be used at the game but it will be used at those games held at venues with VAR in place.
Wrong, just wrong.

Both teams playing each other will have the same advantage/disadvantage if VAR is used or not.

How the other sports governing bodies must be laughing. Tennis, rugby: the players and fans have confidence in the technology and accept the decisions. Football is still just a shambles….totally unacceptable really.
But, VAR simply is not technology. It merely replaces one individual's opinion with another's. That's it.
The ref not spotting the Soucek handball at WHU v Chelsea is unfortunate. But it happens, he's only human. Shrug your shoulders and move on. The VAR not spotting it is downright negligence, and Neil Swarbrick, the current head of VAR who was on duty, not understanding the current law. Kick the TV screen in and hurl my mug of tea at the cat.
Things were better when I could just shrug my shoulders.
Look chaps, VAR is all very new, only been in place a few months, just some teething issues etc,.. Lessons will be learned etc. and give it a season or so and things will all be OK.
Oh hang, on………..
Ah sod it, like politicians/companies c*cking up, just repeat the “being reviewed/looked into” / “lessons will be learned” mantra each time then just carry on regardless.
Nothing much will change - we will still be having these same issues next season, and the next.

Big one for me this weekend was the West Ham handball. He got down low to his left and made a great save...not given

FFS! Grealish takes a blatent dive and var don't even look at it
That was outrageous. But what annoys me even more is that the 'pundits' at half time come out with trite comments like- "He was very clever winning the penalty"
- "There was enough of a touch to warrant going to ground"
- "He's good the way he tucks his foo tin as he goes down" etc. etc.
It's as if they're eulogising about how good he is at cheating. I really wish they'd simply call it out for what it is but of course they're all ex-players so they won't do that because they all did it themselves. Until players are shamed and embarrassed by TV cameras for this nonsense it will just continue.

1. Antony Martial goes down in the box v West Ham. Ref says "no penalty", VAR has a word and says "You might want to look at the monitor, chap" where he goes across, changes his mind and awards a pen from which United score.
2. Nahki Wells goes down in the box v Manchester City. Ref says "no penalty." Erm, that's it.
It doesn't seem right that, in this scenario, United will benefit from VAR but Bristol City lose out because it's not at their ground. I understand that Manchester City won't get the benefit of VAR either v Bristol City but surely everything should be equal at this late stage of the tournament.

Is that your prediction, sound entirely plausible. RichB said:

I get what you're saying, Driver, but in the bigger picture...

As long as it's the same for both teams in any particular game, does it matter? You might as well say Rashford hits a shot along the ground in the cup at Old Trafford, on a PL pitch, and it goes in the corner. Whilst Haaland hits a shot in the cup away at Blyth Spartans, on a non league pitch, ball hits a bump and it diverted wide.

PL grounds will just have better facilities than non league. Be it VAR or better changing rooms. Should we turn the heating off in PL changing rooms in January for cup games, because Northwich Victoria don't have heated changing rooms. If the two teams playing at Northwich have to start the game freezing, why should the 2 teams playing at Tottenham have heat?
