The Official Tottenham Hotspud thread [Vol 10]
Discussion
To be honest I'm a bit pissed off with the state of affairs. For all the piss taking about Karius on the scouser thread, they are doing very good business with lining up what look like some strong additions to the squad.
Anyone thinking our current squad is good enough needs to take their rose tinted Spurs specs off. All the teams are strengthening and we need to do the same. The fact that for the past few years, we seem to have a habit of waiting till the last minute and try to hold out for bargain basement deals then end up with st players like Sissoko is annoying to say the least!
As others stated I thought Poch's strop about the club's commitment then signing a new 5 year contract would change things but it looks like it's just same old, same old.

It's all paper talk at the moment, though. 3 weeks of the window left. Anything can happen.Anyone thinking our current squad is good enough needs to take their rose tinted Spurs specs off. Sorry I beg to differ,Liverpool - 3 confirmed
Arsenal - 5 Confirmed
Utd- 3 Confirmed
City - 1 confirmed even though they don't really need strengthening.
Spurs - 0
In fact we are the only top 6 side to not have done any transfer business yet.
Full list here, (sorry for the Daily Star link but it was the most concise I could find)

st, innit?
There's a ramping-up of the 'Grealish to Spurs' stories today.
Villa fans not happy he's leaving after his stand-out display in last night's friendly win, the tweets at the bottom of this short article say it all

Where would Grealish fit in though, we already have Alli, Eriksen, Moura and Son as attacking mid options all of whom are pretty decent to excellent players, who do you drop to make way for Grealish?
Lamela I'm not 100% convinced on, he's always very busy but often fails to deliver the final product.
Moura looks very good but he got about 10 mins of game time last season. I know Poch likes to introduce players slowly but it's a little frustrating when it's plain to see he would have a big impact in some games, hopefully we'll see a lot more of him this year.

Sorry to say but I'm with the scousers on this one. Yes it's a hell of a lot of money for a keeper and they are getting raped on the transfer deal because they are desperate but if they think they can afford it then why not? It's probably their biggest weakness at the moment and when Klopp was trying to defend Karius and it looked liked they might actually start the season with him, I have to admit to finding it all rather amusing. However credit where credits due. they've actually gone out and done something about it and if that means they have to pay 70m then so be it.
Frankly I'd be over the moon if Spurs spent 70m on a player, at the end of the day it's not my money they are spending so who cares and at least it shows some serious ambition to improve.

And here in lies the main thing - its not our money, we will never see if even if they dont spend, they have not really spent big for years (20m a year net) I much prefer the club spending the 140m from phil, 70m champs league and 150m prem money on new players rather than taking big fat dividends at the end of the year.
I just think we are weak in a few areas, if Dembele goes we have no decent holding midfielder. Even if he stays we will need a replacement soon as he is getting on. Dier is hit and miss and Wanyama is a mere shadow of his former self. If Toby goes we have a gaping hole in the centre of our defence and I don't think either Sanches, Aurier or Dier are good enough to fill his shoes.
We also need some competition or a strike partner for Kane. He may get injured, or we need to rest him or sometimes we might even need to play a second striker as he can get very isolated in certain games.
The team is very good but I still think it needs at least 2 or 3 quality additions to push for that last bit of competitiveness. Other teams are strengthening around us so we can't afford to be complacent and say our team is good enough or we might rue it come the end of the season.

The slightly strange thing was a few days ago people were making fun of us for probably going into next season with Karius as our keeper. Sign Allison, and now it's funny because we spent so much money on a keeper. As mentioned it was a weakness of ours, and so we're trying to address it. Always a risk with someone new, but Karius never really inspired much even when doing well.
I do think people are getting a little excited with the "best squad in years" - which always seems to get posted each summer, But it's exciting to see some new players who will hopefully improve us. We need more quality than most I think, due to the pressing game being more demanding on the fitness front, so important to have options.
Tbf I was doing some of that wum'ing about Karius, well it would be rude not to really.
It also is a lot of money for a keeper but I think you'd have been mad to start the new season with Karius still at number 1 so no choice really. Still fair play to Klopp and LFC management, they saw a weakness and they've fixed it no matter the cost.
