I think we wanted to spread the payments over the length of the contract and cease paying if his knee injury returned.
In that case, Aulas is possibly waiting for other suitors (Chelsea?) to see their interest and who would probably pay the whole transfer fee payable up front. If no interest towards the end of the deadline, Aulas may be forced to take the installment option?

Those who claim to know about these things are saying just that.

At least the window closes before the first game this season so we will know sooner rather than later.

I find it very strange that we went so far to get Fekir pictured in a Liverpool kit (even if it was leaked) and done his first full interview as a "Liverpool player" and not sign him.

Could this be another major cock-up when conducting a transfer (surely you wait until the medical has the green light before Fekir is given a shirt and does an interview?).

Chelsea had no issue with Loic Remy's medical or getting insurance. Either some serious mind games are at play here to pressure Aulas to get the fee restructured or Klopp is resigned that the risk is too great. I can't believe though he will start the campaign without a new No. 10?
In reality when we play 4 3 3 we don't actually play with a 10 as such anyway ... ( I still think we need a new attacking forward though who can open things up and play a number of positions)

The rumour us he didn't fail the medical, there was the issue with the knee that meant we wanted to restructure the way we paid them...the offer is still on the table
True but when in posession one of the midfield always pushes higher into an almost 10 role. Ox was really making a difference in this position so his absence this year is a big blow. I think we have to add depth but also versatility here. If not Fekir then someone like him.

Karius
Just the 1 then? And to be fair he played bloody brilliantly from January until the kick off whistle of the Champ League Final....

I think the transfers under Klopp have been really very good

Karius is a dud and Klavan is borderline acceptable but both were cheap
I don't agree that Karius was bloody brilliant - he was alright for a few months. Nothing more.

But that has been comprehensively dealt with.

Do you know Chelsea got insurance on Remy?

I can definitely see the benefits of getting the PR stuff done whilst finalising the details of the transfer.

I can also see why we're being cautious. For one we've already spent a quarter of a billion pounds on players this year. Secondly, the Prem and especially Klopp's style of play is very demanding increasing the risk of another injury.

I think you will fwiw and as a betting man I think Liverpool is where my money will go this season.
quoted for posterity and comebacks

let it be noted the ONLY person on here that thinks its going to be our year (other than our usual tongue in cheek remarks) is a Spud wink

like the rest of you for me mounting a much closer challenge to City is good progress, others need to figure out how to beat them , otherwise they are clear favourites again next season, another good CL showing would be great too though not expecting to get to the final necessarily

For those of you who still have not really watched Kieta much watch this

Everything on this clip will tell you what you need to know about him as a player

Loves to get the ball and run and a back 4, commit player, knocking challenge the opposition, quick 1 two's
Such an exciting player
I guess we can "make do" with him whilst Ox is out. hehe

Lallana and shaquiri right now could do that role as well as kieta

Klavan was never intended to be something other than a reasonable squad filler and cover. I think he's been OK for that and has fulfilled his purpose. He was never meant to be competition for our first choice centre backs.

Even if funded by an oligarch, I can't think of any institutions in the world that would not insure an £8 million asset.

Can you also see the disadvantages too?

Agree on Klopp's training increasing the risk of injury especially on a player that has a potentially 'weakened' knee.

I've not seen any of the pre-season games, but I've heard we're trialling using him a bit deeper in more of a playmaker role.

Ah, fair enough. Maybe some journos have been saying some stuff about our pre-season with him to talk up his versatility and bring in some potential buyers.

He is looking very sharp, linked up great with Naby last night too -

I would be astounded if we kept him though, 3 years klopp has had him and never fancies him for his team - cant suddenly see that changing.

Keita looks superb ... a really intelligent, unhurried player. You all ought to hope he stays fit ... will be exciting watching him next season ...
