Well, the majority vote won on that last game but somewhat surprisingly, although eleven people thought the tablecloth folk would win, not one of you said it would be 2-0.

So at the halfway stage of the first matchday round, GTO-3R is top closely follwed by E31Shrew and Brabus Mog. These three are the only ones averaging a point or more per game, an impressive average in the main Predictathon. It's early days though and with three more games per day now for the next eight days before the final round, there'll be much more movement from behind, I'm sure.... (fnarr!).

Here's the table, enjoy it and see you back here tomorrow!

Serbia triumph 1-0 over Costa Rica, a result predicted by four 'Thon entrants (Glover Mart, Pommy, Jacob Lawson and J Cremonini).

Seven other people went for the Serbian win and seven went for the draw, an unusually high number. One person was brave enough to go for a Costa Rica win but we'll respect his anonymity on this one (but he might share a pint with Inspector Morse.. hehe ).

That means GM moves serenely into third place behind last night's leaders GTO3R and E31 Shrew. Next up is Germany v Mexico which has produced eighteen German win predictions plus one from Jose Lotus Notes Sanchez, who is claiming a draw.

We'll see.

Ariba Ariba, as the folk from south of the States are prone to exclaim.

No one saw that result coming, no not even Lotus Notes who as we speak, is being checked out for his Mexican heritage. Well done, LN..... clap . It represents the second game of the World Cup where absolutely no one scored a point, the first being Morocco v Iran.

Next up is Brazil v Switzerland. I love Brazilians, me, but I also like the Swiss. Why? I'm not sure but their flag is a big plus. For this one, every single 'Thonner has gone for a Brazil win, which is plain nuts as the Swiss won nine of ten qualifying games apparently. Six different winning scorelines have been guessed so anything could happen, but probably won't.

Ye'll be pleased tae know that ma run of corny jokes is ney mar.

smile Oh so close! My longing for Mexican food didn't stretch to a full-on win..

Onwards and (hopefully) upwards.

"It's a funny ol' game" as the wonderful Jimmy Greaves used to say.

For the second time in three matches today, nobody scores a point at all. Nil, nada, zero, zilch, nought. I felt sure Neymar would be on fire tonight but sadly not. Hey, it's not the first time I've been disappointed at how a Brazilian has turned out, and it won't be the last.

Good day then for the likes of Glover Mart, Pommy, Jacob Lawson and J Cremonini who all scored maximum points in the Costa Rica v Serbia match but also good for last night's top two of GTO3R and E31 Shrew who still find themselves first and second despite only scoring a point between them.

Tomorrow sees Belgium v Panama, England v Tunisia and of course the big one as Sweden take on Korea. Did I ever tell you I fancied the blonde one from Abba? Can't remember the name..... ah, that's it. Benny!

Night all!

GTO3R and 48k take the honours there, correctly foreseeing that the Danes would beat Paddington Bear's mob 1-0.

Eleven other 'thonners also went for the Danish to bring home the bacon, so a high scoring match even though there was only a goal in it.

GTO3R is now top banana, closely followed by Brabus Mog and E31 Shrew two points behind. Full table to follow tonight.

Morning all.... this is it. The big day, football's coming home, isn't it? Jumpers for goalposts, small boys in the park.....

A brief pre-match preview for today. First up is Sweden v Korea and the Swedes, minus Ibra of course, haven't got as many win predictions as I expected. Only half of you think thye'll win although seven more think it will end in stalemate. I've backed Sweden to shade it which might not be a good korea move.

Belgium and Panama are up next. The Belgians are full of top footballing talent plus Marouane Fellaini too and should be too much for a country famous only for a canal and hats. Eighteen out of nineteen have pledged a win for the land of the sprouts while a nineteenth has inexplicably gone for a 2-2 draw. Would be unfair to name and shame, let's just say he's half the man 96k was!

Finally, En-ger-lund. Seventeen say England, one says a draw while Ascayman reckons the Tunics will sneak a win.

We'll see. Secretly, I reckon Ascay will take being wrong if it means England have won. I knew I would.

Fun fact - the canal was originally going to be built through Nicaragua but due to the spine of the country being lined with volcanoes and a massive eruption in Iceland before the project commenced, everyone got cold feet and the decision to use Panama was made.
