In the last 2 world cups, over 90 minutes he's beaten Panama, Iran, Wales, Sweden, Tunisia. It took penalties to beat a Columbia without their main man Rodriguez. We lost to Croatia once, Belgium twice and France once.
What exactly has Southgate achieved that was out of the ordinary?
Not been tempted to take a bung? What exactly has Southgate achieved that was out of the ordinary?
Not offended the disabled?
Not shagged Ulrikakakakaka?

Concerned he is picking Kalvin Phillips who has made 5 appearances for City all season. What’s the point?
Absolutely crazy. Didn't Pep call him fat publicly?More concerning is that after a period of reflection, it's the same old Gareth. Rather than adapting and learning from Qatar and using this as an opportunity for change, he'll still play his mates rather than players in-form. He still won't take a risk and free up the reins on our abundance of attacking options and switch his mindset that attack could be the best form of defence.
Toney was in the squad before the WC and didn't even come on. What's the point?

So who would you have in attack?
It's not so much who should be in attack, rather change our style of play that enables to get more from our attack. Going in with two defensive midfielders most games should be reviewed - maybe look at playing a 10 behind 9 in a diamond. Basically take a risk, try different approaches rather than always sticking to a defensive mindset. It should be horses for courses. And certainly dont select players who aren't even playing for their club sides. Or who aren't even playing well. Why is Jordan Henderson being selected for? He's been terrible for us this season and how does that translate to enabling England as whole to play well?

Spot on. More concerning is that after a period of reflection, it's the same old Gareth. Wasn't Toney picked in the squad previously but then the word came out he wouldn't play because of this gambling suspension hanging over him. Now he's been charged with it, all of a sudden Southgate picks him.
As for picking people that are woefully out of form for their clubs, he has always done that and excused it by saying "they've never let England down". While there may be a grain of truth in there, Sterling hasn't set England alight for a long time now, Henderson has been decidedly average and as for Phillips, he's literally got no club form to go on. I get that he hasn't picked Sterling this time but he would have done had he not been injured.
Players that are playing out of their skin and desperate to pull on an England shirt are what we want & need in the team. It must be demoralising doing that and then not getting into the squad because Gareth decides to select someone playing far worse than you. I'd go as far as to say some players club form has suffered because they don't get the recognition they deserve and struggle to keep it up.
