Old fashioned defending please, Stones, there's your coat.
We did old fashioned defending for 50 years and it got us nowhere. Holland also gave away a goal thru not hoofing it out of defence, do you think they are going to change?

And the disallowed "goal" came from a pass on the goal line.

No shame in getting beat by this lot and we actually looked like a semi-decent side.

Fans are total and utter dicks though. Embarrassing.

What sort of modern fancy defending is allowing yourself to be robbed of the ball when you’ve got a simple pass to your keeper on?

To play out from the back effectively you need world class players, or poor opposition.

Neither were a factor tonight, so they shouldn't be doing it.

Spot on.

Commentators seem to think that there is a binary choice when it comes to defending. You have to either hoof it out from the back like in the old days or faff around with it at the back and play it out calmly, stroking the ball around. For me, the correct way is the latter but with the knowledge that if you have to hoof, you hoof. Stones has always been too cocky for his talent and tonight, I'm afraid, we paid for it.

I'm not his biggest fan but i really despise this booing a player for no reason, Unless of course i've missed something he's done ?

I didn't see anything from Virgil other than another solid defensive performance.

Exactly this, just not good enough to play that way. Players with no vision, indecisive, nervy passing, easier to knock it back to the goal keeper that make a positive pass forward.

Just get rid of the ball, yes it may come back again but often it does not, nothing wrong with a long ball game.
