Suarez was suspended by Ajax for biting so they got rid of him.
Evra had been trying all summer to get out of Monaco and stopped playing for them in the December so he got his transfer.
Mascherano registered with Liverpool at the end of February 2007 not January, signed a permanent contract in February 2008 and left in 2010 - debatable whether he was a good buy or not.
Zaha moved in the summer not Jan.
Sturridge can't even believe you're using him as an example of a decent signing in the January window
Matic rejoined Chelsea after playing only half a season at Benfica and lasted two seasons before joining Man Utd, not sure he set the world alight in that time
To be fair the VVD deal would have been completed the previous summer if Liverpool had approached it in the correct manner and not tapped him up.
So out of that list, Cahil and Vidic are probably the only genuine examples of good players signed in January who went on to have reasonable careers at the buying club and where the selling club really wanted to keep / wasn't surplus to requirements / a liability.
TLDR; I think Smarty's point has some truth behind it.
There is some truth in it, that its harder but if you want to you can was my point.Evra had been trying all summer to get out of Monaco and stopped playing for them in the December so he got his transfer.

Suarez would have been snapped up irrelevant if banned or not
Sturridge - scored 11 in 16 when signed in Jan and 24 in 33 season after - how you don't rate that is beyond me
Fergie signed Zaha in Jan - he was a massive prospect and a potentially great signing
Give you Masch and Matic , VVD potentially but remember that was a no deal in the summer whether he had said they were going or not - We had to pay an extra 25m to get him when we wanted him , point being if you want someone in jan you can but it may cost you more

Let it go Sye, whilst Jan transfers are trickier they can work - we all know that. And we know everyone on here is going to console themselves with the idea they never do, rather than admit its Levy being a tight wad again, at a time when they desperately need reinforcement.Suarez would have been snapped up irrelevant if banned or not

As for Sturridge - in the contect of Smart's point I'm judging whether or not a player was a good January signing based on their overall time at a club not the first season and a half.
And as for Suarez being snapped up - I see what you did there
Who do Spurs actually sign that is at the top of there game?? you sign players who are good but not getting a chance at there club i.e Moura, or you sign young
All of those options are players available in Jan if you make a bid -
You are not the type of club to go and sign someone from a top club and pay big bucks

In recent times? Almost no one. In the past you could argue Gascoigne, Lineker, Ginola, Klinsmann are examples of players at the top of their game who we signed. But these days whilst the incumbent chairman has deep pockets unfortunately he has very short arms. Couple that to a lack of recent success at the top level and it's a tough gig to attract the very top players.Edited by 48k on Friday 1st February 09:44

What did you think of Keita on Wednesday, Sye?
Are you going to ask me this every game -He was coming in to the game more when he went off for starter, that was a bad decision. He was also a lot better than Matip, Shaquiri, Salah
I dont get what the constant singling him out, yes EVERYONE expected more but some players as I have said take a bit longer, something is not right, to me he does not look 10% as confident as he did at RB. His whole game was about taking risks, beating a man , going for a quick 1 2 to me he looks scared to do it in case it doesn't come off.
The other night was also only his 2nd game in his actual position - I have resigned to the fact I think we will see a lot more of him come next season after another pre season and some extra confidence.
Its hard for a player of his type who players on confidence to have it in our team when he is in and out of the team through squad selection and injury.
Did I or anyone else who watched him a lot last year expect more, course we did - no doubt KLOPP, EDWARDS and everyone else with any football brain did but he has not suddenly become a bad player, something is just not right.
Give him time, we are lucky to be in a position where its not hurting us that his form is not up to last years.
I remember Suarez coming in and everyone slating him, we even had people saying he was not a forward and could not finish, look at him the year later.
If we are sat here next year having the same conversation then ill worry but not now, he is 22, in a new league, new language, new team - unfortunately for him his reputation around Europe is giving him no time.

Anyone been to that Boxpark place outside of Wembley pre or post match? Taking a load of mates tomorrow and unsure whether to go there or the ever reliable spoons at Baker street.

I thought you'd say that. Just wanted to give you your chance to say your piece and I knew that the welcoming and magnanimous chaps on this thread of harmony wouldn't object.
I dont feel there is a need too after every game - he was anything but the worst player the other night so I find it odd people bring him up. Shaquiri was shocking, Salah was static, Matip was all over the shop m3sye said:
