Yes ,so you can add 50m onto any transfer fee.

If there’s any truth in it, all it means is that Napoli have no intention of selling at £97m. If they got a bid of £150m, they might change their thoughts.
Would a top-line player like that join us though? Looks like De Ligt has better offers. I think the best we can hope for this summer is decent lesser lights who’ll come because they would be assured of first team football which they wouldn’t necessarily get at Europes very top clubs.
I really don’t think that is a problem,we can still attract players ,the club still has huge pulling power along with financial clout.

I’m just not sure. For instance, we would probably want Mbappe if he’s moving but despite being able to afford him, he wouldn’t end up at OT because other people can afford him, he’d be pretty much guaranteed to start and he wouldn’t be risking 2 years of his career on a rebuilding program. Same with the likes of Kane or even Messi.
Sorry if I seem pessimistic but I do think we need to raise our level gradually for now so that hopefully in 2 years we can really go for the superstars when they come available.

When was the last time you signed a top player at his peek - genuine question

Sanchez was not at his peek when you signed him, he had been pretty poor for a year

Plus playing the likes of the boys from FC BATE Borisov cannot be that appealing .

Next season, if we stop conceding goals and score at other end, we will do well.

Simples, really.

Your abuse of the English language genuinely hurts me, regardless, surely trying to buy players at their PEAK is where we have been going wrong, you want them a few years before.

Then you can sell them to big clubs, like you do.

It’ll probably provide a glimpse into the future of your club this time next year if Poch ends up leaving. Can’t believe he won’t get any improvement in kitty this time round, he can’t work miracles forever.

Like Pogba?

You bought him, you sold him and then bought him again. And that turned out well, didn't it? wink

Sorry for the pain Keyser, will try harder next time for you

I asked the question as koulibaly was being discussed he is in his peak, 27 and probably 1 of the most sought after CBs who could potentially be available, every year in here a lot of you u get excited by newspaper reports about top top players and none happen, hence me asking when did you last sign a top player in the peak of his powers, not coming to the end of his peak like Sanchez was.

He is a top player, surely if he was available City, Juve, Madrid, Barca , psg would all be in for him ? He walks into any of those teams, can get paid the same, challenge for the league and play in the premier competition in Europe.

Are you not better trying for someone early 20s who has the potential to become as good as him at the stage you are at now?

You do realise that pogba was one of the highest scoring midfielders last season in the prem? And yes he was ste at times.
Edit to add, transfer talk is also that he would fetch 150m, if that's true he can feck right off and well happily bank the 60m profit to spend elsewhere!

I sort of agree with Sye and do think it’s probably where the club are aiming but you can’t only buy ‘prospects’, some of the improvements have to be ready to drop in and bring our quality up immediately (subject to gelling period perhaps). I’m just not sure we can expect 10/10 players to find us quite attractive enough atm but let’s face it, even 7/10 is better than what we’ve had! We should be looking for 8’s or 9’s this summer.

Tbf Pogba is the answer to my question he was probably your last one, you signed him off memory when you didn't do great year before I think to, so a good coup at the time.

Funds were available to Mr Pochettino but he decided the players he wanted were not for sale so he declined to buy.

We desperately need to clear some deadwood from the side, even if it means paying up contracts. I understand why clubs get players to sign contracts to increase value, issue is we have players no one wants.

In all fairness sir, you have missed the point of my post. This is no way meant as a derogatory comment about Manchester united.

Pogba was certainly the last top player we signed in his peak. Others have been potentials which just haven’t worked out.
