What the **** is wrong with people?

Presumably he's never been to a rugby match, or even a rugby club?
The view that rugby is for the middle/upper classes is inherently outmoded. The people sitting around me at Murrayfield on Saturday were resolutely working class. Whereas the folks who I go to Chelsea and Arsenal with are both company directors.
Go figure.
Why do you go to Chelsea and Arsenal if it's all so bad and scum? The view that rugby is for the middle/upper classes is inherently outmoded. I go because I enjoy the company of the people I go with, because I get invited, and because I like watching football occasionally.
This morning's news brought videos showing SPORT fans throwing fireworks into the garden of a senior administrator at their club, a house he shares with his wife and children. Ostensibly because, in spite of providing hundreds of millions of pounds to spend on signings, said administrator has let their team down.
This evening, the same administrator will attend his team's SPORT match, potentially with his young family, in the fear that he might have to face thousands of fans singing a song suggesting that they want him dead. I can't even imagine how he must feel right now.
I also can't imagine replacing SPORT with anything other than "football". No other sport would sound remotely credible.
Yet time and again, this "tiny minority" of Neanderthals seem to raise their heads, emboldened (and supported by) the apparent apathy of the "decent majority". I sit and listen to sports radio journalists making apologies for them, based on some laughable premise of "passion" and entitlement.
Why don't passionate fans of other sports behave like these Neanderthals? Why do football fans enable and excuse this behaviour?

I’m a football fan. Like the vast majority of fans I abhor such behaviour and don’t know any who would excuse it. How do you suggest us fans ‘enable’ such behaviour?Edited by bad company on Thursday 30th January 02:13

Some football fans are just thick horrible s.
But I guess loads of tennis, golf and cricket fans do it regularly. Don't they? Some football fans are just thick horrible s.
Oh, they don't? So you're saying this only ever happens in football? But you're sure it's just a tiny minority, and in no way endemic? And it's definitely not something the fans would make excuses for?

14.62 million people attended Premier league matches in the 2018/19 season. That’s not including the millions watching Championship and other league matches. My point is that it really is just a tiny minority causing trouble.Which fans are making excuses for them please?

Don’t be surprised when people from council estates/ rough upbringings/ people who’ve lost their way in life end up on the terraces abusing others after getting drunk before the game and toffs end up at golf/ rugby/ tennis (after paying a shedload of money to sit centre court)
Football culture has always been like that and obviously away days, getting drunk on the minibus whilst travelling 3 hours to a game the other end of the country breeds that.
Toffs end up at the match too, travelling from London to Liverpool every game, paying £200 a person where husband, wife and two children all sit there next to eachother.
First and last post on this as it seems like you have an unhealthy obsession with this subject.

You're right, it isn't nearly as bad as it used to be. Still, around the World, football violence overshadows that of other sporting events. The Culture of Tribalism and the sense that some fans truly believe a Club belongs to them (lifelong supporters, often spanning generations), rather than they belonging to the Club as Members supporting it, engenders a mentally among a retarded minority the feeling that they must act, even violently, to steer the Club in the direction they want it to go. Which fans are making excuses for them please?
Some take the defeat of their Club in a sports match personally. It literally consumes them to the point that they get very angry. Others hide behind Tribalism as an excuse for a good old spot of violence for violence sake or just plain gang warfare.
It isn't just in the UK, it happens all over the World. Football has an incredible following but a minority take it way too far and betray a much darker side to sports supporters who literally do not understand what it means to be an actual supporter of sports and sporting competition.
Most, of course, are true supporters.

Or opposition fans making gestures to mock tragedies that their opponents' teams have suffered (as we saw last night).
Why is it only football where this happens?

Actually I'm not sure if you're being serious? You genuinely think there's the same mentality from tennis and cricket fans?
Edit. Having reread your post I thought you were defending them and saying you get the same minority of idiots at other sports.
I never said anything about a tiny minority, if you're asking me then I'd say it's a significant minority. If it's one or two dheads in 50000 then they'd be arrested/banned for life and that would be it.
It's generally not though, it's 10's or 100's of people.

"Fans fought in the concourses and the parking lots after tempers boiled over following the conclusion of the game.
It's unclear whether who started the fights, but from the footage above it seems like, much like the action on the field, the Bears dominated once again.
The fight follows hot on the heels of angry scenes after the LA Lakers-Denver Nuggets NBA game at Staples Center, where a Lakers fan punched a Denver fan in the face on his way out of the arena, despite seeing his side win."

Do we expect the Lakers' opponents' fans to be making helicopter gestures this week after Kobe Bryant died in a crash?
Of course we don't - other sports have higher standards, and fewer Neanderthals. Football is rotten at its core when fans feel emboldened to behave like this.

"A total of 16.67 million fans attended NFL games during the 2019 regular season", that's out of a population of 329.45 million, as opposed to 14.5 million out of 66.4 million in England. Not exactly comparable is it?Or opposition fans making gestures to mock tragedies that their opponents' teams have suffered (as we saw last night).

While there are still a lot of idiots who attend football matches (almost every club seems to have a small proportion of them), read the Wikipedia page in the link at the end of my post, this was in Canada and was about a Hockey match https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2011_Vancouver_Stanl...
