NFL is even bigger, but I don't remember the last time I heard songs about clubs' chairmen dying.
Or opposition fans making gestures to mock tragedies that their opponents' teams have suffered (as we saw last night).
Why is it only football where this happens?
"A total of 16.67 million fans attended NFL games during the 2019 regular season", that's out of a population of 329.45 million, as opposed to 14.5 million out of 66.4 million in England. Not exactly comparable is it?Or opposition fans making gestures to mock tragedies that their opponents' teams have suffered (as we saw last night).

Roughly the same number of people (containing plenty of working class folk) seem to manage to attend NFL games without regularly mocking tragedy or making death threats en masse.
Why do football fans get a pass?

I sit and listen to sports radio journalists making apologies for them, based on some laughable premise of "passion" and entitlement.
Which sports radio journalists were making apologies for those Manchester idiots? "I can understand where their frustration is coming from, and they've crossed a line, but I'd be a hypocrite for calling them out because I've also sung some pretty nasty things about the chairmen of my own club."
That's the literal definition of journalists excusing their behaviour. It's embarrassing, and I can't imagine any other sport's pundits making excuses like that.
Football is rotten.

Who was the pundit? I'm sure they'll have expanded on the brief part you heard to get some proper context of their opinion.
Probably not the best idea to ask a pundit his opinions of what happened at a game when he was at another game.
I don't understand why you keep listening and watching when it clearly keeps upsetting you.

What does the % of the population who attend have to do with anything? More obfuscation.

Who says they get a pass? You have an agenda. This doesn't seem to be the place to follow it. Almost every sane human in the world agrees that the behaviour of a minority (and that's what it is, whether you like it or not) of fans is reprehensible. As to why it happens, I'm sure you're capable of googling learned articles about mob mentalilty and partisan/tribal behaviour related to sports. Be sure to look at similar articles about political tribalism and related violence and anything else you can think of which might be similar.Roughly the same number of people (containing plenty of working class folk) seem to manage to attend NFL games without regularly mocking tragedy or making death threats en masse.

Football, and its fans, continues to cover itself in glory.
The number of Twitter posts about boycotting a club because they and their captain condemned a dumb, racist banner about White Lives Matter is frightening.
Football seems to be the UK's NASCAR when it comes to attracting racists. Why is it apparently tolerated more in football than other sports? Even more baffling when you considering the large proportion of non-white players in the PL.

I reckon it’s more a case of many racists being attracted to the tribalism of football. The number of Twitter posts about boycotting a club because they and their captain condemned a dumb, racist banner about White Lives Matter is frightening.

What would the reaction have been if the 3 guys murdered in Reading on Sunday had been black?

That’s one person out of how many?
Ah, yes. The "one bad apple" defence. Why was football, of all the sports who opened their doors this week, the only one where the attendees are racially abusing pundits?
We didn't see it at the F1 in Monaco this weekend, or at the US PGA Championships. Rugby stadiums across the country had fans in this week, with 20k fans in Twickenham on Friday and Saturday - no racism reported.
Why is it always football?
Why do football fans always feel the need to defend and deflect?

Of course Rio is right on this., but this is the same Rio who was fined £45K for racially abusing Ashley Cole. You're going to need to explain the relevance to me.
Yet more trash in football. https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/57197664
I'm sure it's just "a few bad apples" though.
