QED.
Traditionally that was broadly right. I’m not sure I’d still describe football as a working class sport.

What I'm seeing is you think your opinion is greater than anyone else.

Nobody is saying there isn't problems. You were asked to highlight the problems, more specifically in the EPL, and failed.

The examples you used will be dealt with as harshly as possible. What happens to them now is a criminal matter and not for football to be all lenient and excuse them. Which nobody actually did anyway.

I'd agree that this was a bit of a lazy stereotype of football fans, too. While the vast majority of fans (particularly outside of the EPL) are working class, when I go to Stamford Bridge or the Emirates I see a lot of people who aren't in this traditional stereotype.

If you think this discussion was just about "the EPL", or that somehow by pulling a litany of examples of horrendous fan behaviour in the past few weeks alone I've somehow "failed", then I don't think this thread is for you.

Well, I did refer to a sweeping generalisation.

Lazy stereotype, fair comment, but how inaccurate is that stereotype?

Many American sports have crowd sizes that the average top tier football club could only dream of. Yet you don't see anywhere near the same kind of behaviours as I've listed there.
There are fights at/outside NFL games as well

I accept that, but I can't really see that two blokes having a pushing and shoving match is in any way comparable with this:

In 2013/14 there was 356 arrests at football for violent disorder at football.

In 2017/18 there was 26,000 assaults on police officers. There was 54,000 recorded rapes in England and Wales.

356 suddenly doesn't appear like a big number for the 38,230,911 total attendance.

You missed the bloke smashing a bottle on the other bloke's head, then?

How do you think the ECB and cricket fans would respond if there were more than 1,400 fan arrests for violent incidents at cricket matches in a season (as there were in the 2017-18 football season)?

I didn't spot that.

But you're right - it's basically the same thing as this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=872q1zEOOpQ

Watched a bit of that.

If you are involved, how do you know who to hit and who is on your side? They all looked the same to me!

I have absolutely no idea. I've never seen one of these in real life, but I've certainly been in the middle of some very nasty abusive/provocative behaviour when attending London derbies. The weird thing was that some of the recipients of this abuse seem to revel in it - it seemed to embolden them.
I'm going to go read some sociological studies on this kind of thing - has potential to be fascinating.

I don't follow cricket at all. It bores me to death.

Hasn't cricket had issues with players failing to conduct themselves well? Various assaults and drunken disorderly behaviour?

I'm sure if you filtered off the amount of football fans v the amount of cricket fans then the trouble wouldn't be massively different.

Ever noticed how many arrests take place in each town every weekend?

So you're saying it's "just a few bad apples" and we shouldn't worry, yeah?
You're right. No other sport in the UK is within an order of magnitude of the level of fan violence associated with football, but that's OK because cricket is boring and one cricketer called another "gay" recently.

You are so frustrating.

How clearly does something have to be clarified to you? You are again trying to put words into my mouth I've quite specifically said otherwise.

Strange you have an issue with violence when you appear to be rather aggressive, getting short tempered, making childish jibes at people on this thread and not even willing to read what is said. You are what you appear to have an issue with.

I'm out.

I'm really not short-tempered or aggressive. I'm just highlighting the persistent reluctance to acknowledge the issue. Almost every reply has been a poor attempt at deflection.

I remember going to a few PL games and the level of sheer hatred for the opposition is astounding. I expected a riot to break out every time and yet at the end one lot sloped off and other lot did the same. I wonder if its a bit like road rage, when you're all protected you feel confident but once you don't...
