I'm really not short-tempered or aggressive. I'm just highlighting the persistent reluctance to acknowledge the issue. Almost every reply has been a poor attempt at deflection.
So everyone else is wrong and you’re right? Even when you’ve been given facts & figures.

You seem to live in a strange deluded world of your own.

I have seen fighting at football, cricket and over in the States at baseball.
All of the above due to excessive amounts of alcohol .
It is always the minority and always pointless but it still goes on.
Pre arranged meets between fans still goes on and always will. Not big and not clever but some get a kick out of it.
Watched a lot of football and unfortunately you need your wits about you when you go to away games. Which is a great shame.

These are football fans.
Scummy people, emboldened by the herd mentality, and not deterred by the persistent, pathetic rhetoric from the authorities.

What an absolute shambles of a sport.

If you take the time to read the thread you might understand the reason behind the comment.

OK - Lets say you're suddenly promoted to the head of the FA. What's the 1st thing you'd change or implement ?

I'm sure it's "just a few bad apples", and "very rare" that this sort of thing happens.

Indeed. I actually enjoy the game of football, but the behaviour of its fans is an absolute blight on the sport.

I see by your profile that you are a BMW driver.

According to a lot of people on this forum all BMW drivers are inconsiderate idiots.

Would it be fair to lump you into the same boat?

If that's your opinion, you're welcome to it.
The difference is that I never get together with a huge group of BMW drivers and decide that we're going to drive badly, en masse.

It's not my opinion. I hate people who use lazy stereotypes. It confuses me how some people end up with such skewed opinions on the basis of a tiny minority and think they are right.

I know from driving my BMWs it's often the other driver than hates BMWs that has the aggression problem.

Just like only the minority of BMW drivers are idiots, only a tiny amount of football fans get involved in nonsense. From near 90,000 fans two overstepped the mark badly.

Out of curiosity, why does it mean so much to you?

Looking at your history you don't take any involvement in football threads, but you want everyone to know your opinion here.

Two distinct points:
1. While it's easy to make the "tiny minority" argument, why don't other sports suffer with the same issues from their "tiny minority"?
2. I don't contribute to football threads because I became disenchanted with it a while ago due to the people who 'support', and gave up on supporting a team because my heart wasn't in it. I'm sure won't miss my £ (because that's probably the most important thing), but it disappoints me.

1. They do but the numbers are much smaller.

2. As I said earlier, just enjoy watching or playing some other sports.

Go back to the list I wrote, and show me where all of those things have happened in any other top tier European sport this season. The examples I pulled for football have all happened in the past 2.5 months!

A good quote by Irvine Welsh after the most recent Scotland v Ireland rugby game.

“If football fans behaved like that they would be arrested, jailed and put on the sex offenders list. Time the establishment stopped being chin stroking sociologists for the privileged and viscous social controllers for the working classes.”

I’ve already answered your questions.

I still don’t understand why you don’t just watch another sport though.

Presumably he's never been to a rugby match, or even a rugby club?
The view that rugby is for the middle/upper classes is inherently outmoded. The people sitting around me at Murrayfield on Saturday were resolutely working class. Whereas the folks who I go to Chelsea and Arsenal with are both company directors.

Go figure.

It's "just a couple of bad apples", and I'm sure that every sport has them.

It's definitely not a scummy football thing. Definitely not.

https://www.theguardian.com/football/2019/jun/06/e...

The mind boggles as to the environment in the sport that supporters feel like they aren't being dissuaded from behaving like this.
