need some strikers too - Jansen and Llorente gone.
Mind you Troy Parrott, who a few on here said to watch, looks good.

£10m for Jansen!

So, no one wants to buy him at £25m but you're going to put his price up to £40m? Seems a little redundant?

Sounds like a reasonable plan if you want him to stay

£25m for one of the best CBs in Europe, with at least 3 good years left in him; and people want to buy Maguire instead?

I expect his agent has already been sounded out by a lot of prospective clubs but much like Eriksen, with all due respect, there are very few clubs that won't been seen as a step down. I'm sure if he we only motivated by money, he would have left by now.

Also, why pay £25m now, if you can get him to sign a pre-contract in January for nowt?

I would have thought he'd be an absolute no-brainer for United. It's not as if they couldn't afford to sign Maguire also. But then their transfer policy over the last few years remains a mystery to most...

Only 2 keepers? Bit of risk.

Centre-Back - CCV. He's been on loan a long time, generally that shows Poch doesn't rate you. CCV is near as damn it the same age as Foyth, so he's not out on loan because he's young.

Left Back - Rose has been told he can go and Ben Davies isn't great.

Defensive Midfield - Dier is OK, Wanyama looks like his top level career is going to be cut short by injuries, and Skipp if you're being kind has yet to prove himself.

Attacking Midfield - Onomah isn't on the pre-season tour and has been on loan for years. Like Edwards it's expected he'll move on this summer.

Left Winger - N'Koudou. Really?

Right Winger - How many games would you expect Lamela to be fit for?

Striker - No cover?

Parrot is 17 and Edwards is currently training with Brentford.

That looks like a wafer thin squad to me.

My understanding is the 25m relates to foreign clubs only. That's why no one in the prem has been linked yet. Once it expires then Levy can set it at whatever he wants...which if United come in will be 40m.

Still, if I was Utd and it was a choice between a 26 year old £80m Maguire or a 30 year old £40m Toby, I know which I would choose. I think Toby would be a much better choice for Utd at the back, much more of a leader and more experienced.

Toby is a far better player in my opinion.

But we will get 8-10 years out of Maguire and only 4 out of Toby so long term value will be better with Maguire.

But who is the better player?

Its not even in question TOBY is a better player, you dont have to worry about money so value is irrelevant - you pay Sanchez 500k a week to play a piano

Exactly. There's the argument for saying that Maguire is the quality of player that might get you fighting for top four whereas Toby could be the player that could help lead a team towards title challenges.

The time to buy Maguire was when he was at Hull, as he was obviously a very good prospect then.

I understand the age argument for future potential but I'd pick Toby over Maguire too as he is the better player right NOW.

Both are also better defenders than any of the current LFC backline except for VvD.

I'm not disagreeing at all and think we should sign Alderweireld over Maguire tbh but I don't think Ed want's to sign players over 30. But maybe we are, who knows!

I don't think Toby will take the step down, personally.
