Transfer deadline is coming. I'm getting ready with a post deadline rant.
why? last time 'we' purchased 7 players in one go, only 2 ended up staying and 1 of em is semi broken
If we were properly managing the squad, huge numbers of purchases wouldn't be necessary, we should be changing a player or two each transfer window but that hasn't happened. That means we need to do perform hugely disruptive / expensive updates when a large number of players have to change in a short period of time.

When Bale left we bought the following players.

Roberto Soldado
Erik Lamela
Etienne Capoue
Vlad Chiriches
Paulinho
Nacer Chadli
Christian Eriksen

6 years later 2 of those players are still with us, which doesn't seem bad. In total those players racked up over 550 appearances for us, so they weren't insignificant players for us.

We need to be doing something of a similar scale for the next couple of transfer windows.

I wouldn't say Moura is a second string side player any more either. I think he'll be part of your first XI this season, in rotation with Son/Alli.

He's certainly going to get a lot of minutes next season and I'm happy he's part of squad.

We should aspire to having a second string squad that are all of his level, at the moment I don't think that's the case.

And there's plenty of old bodies there reaching the end of their contracts. Now look at the rest of our players and come up with a second string.
You're still putting Erikssen in?

He's not left yet (I'll be including him in my post-transfer window mega rant). Maybe Levy will address all my concerns in the next couple of days.

We are also going into the season with only 2 established keepers, last season we had 3.
With all due respect you're living in a dream world. No team in the Prem has three established keepers. Not even City.
Gazza is a fine number two and has proven his worth in cup runs replacing Vorm, and has done well pre season. No team has three first team level keepers to rotate.
You need to wake up from Fittster's Fantasy Land and deal with the real world.

Considering we played our best football when we had decent fullbacks, I really can't understand how we've let that situation end up the way it has.
Fullbacks are not important, just the failures that can't play in any other position....

Pointless players
Especially those who assist 25 goals to a team

If you have the players to make the system work they can work well although that system is being found out a bit now.

By system I mean solid CB's AND a solid defensive midfield. This allows you to anchor the centre of the park to stop teams coming at you through the middle and using the wings to attack and pin the other team back.

We used to play like that 2-3 years ago and it's this system Klopp used rather successfully last season.

However if you don't have a solid defence and defensive midfield the system doesn't work, add in fullbacks that aren't as good and you get disaster so you have to change the system and make the fullbacks less important.

To do that you forget about using them to attack, they just need to be competent defenders, when used in that role which is the majority of teams, they lose there significance greatly and their sole job becomes stopping the wingbacks getting crosses in.

So depending on what system you play they can be rather important or not really. Only a few teams play the wingback system so it's true that for the majority, they are usually the least important players on the field.

At this point in time, we just need fullbacks who can defend, unfortunately we don't even have that.

Tottenham Hotspur have made a bid to sign former #LFC midfielder Philippe Coutinho on loan from Barcelona, with the Catalan club likely to charge about £21m to complete the deal, according to @TimesSport.

Think that will trigger Ericsson to UTD?

Didnt you get banned from this sub-section?

Nah, just find it weird that someone who doesnt have 'history' in this section all of a sudden becomes very animated in it with their ideas. Its abit like when a member gets banned then some new member joins as magically knows the history of some long running thread they, sorry, the new member had been following but not logging on.

Just wondered if Fittster was someone else previously
