Just bought one, got all giddy over the oomph, handed over the cash and drove off into the sunset grinning, like a loon... biggrin

Having never driven a D5 before all I can say is that the engine is remarkable, flooring it in 2nd and it takes off like a scalded cat (and people remap these !!)

Just need a good independent / dealer in West Cornwall now to give it a good service as there's no evidence of the belts being done.

They put the 2.4 engine in the C30? That should be fun. I’d definitely debadge it, shock all the boy racers.

Enjoy, the D5s in the Volvo's are highly regarded in the V50/70 so must be extra fun in the lighter C30.

Get some pics/thread up too.

Had the D5 in my V50 remapped approx 100k miles ago. Now on 162k, original clutch.
I remapped as I always found that the power delivery was a bit too 'linear' and it seemed to be held back lower down the rev range. Now its proper turbodiesel, lots of low down torque but it still revs out quite well to almost 5k. Mine was an MTE remap but there are plenty of others available.
Overall very glad i had it done

I have an MTE remap on my D5 C70. Remapped at 57k, immediately exposed a weak clutch.

135k I needed a new gearbox, driveshafts, another clutch and DMF.

Significantly heavier car of course, but just be aware that there can be consequences to running long term with a remap. It is far, far more enjoyable to drive in it's mapped state though!

Turns out that the local Volvo dealer is no more than others would charge for doing a major service and all the belts so I've booked it in with them next week - they're also plugging it into their machine to load any updates and will give me 12 months Volvo assist. Let's hope the updates don't include limiting it to 112 but do include enabling the trip computer...

I had the 'engine system service required' message pop up, so I checked the oil level and it was all the way up to the top - I drained a bit out and haven't seen the message again (result!), I like those sort of fixes.

do you find it quite laggy. i was surprised at the turbo lag but im not sure if its a boost leak.

the turning circle is atrocious on the C30 d5. Going from a mini which you could throw into a parking space like Russ swift my C30 was more a 8 point turn until i got used to it.

loving mine though, get on the motor way and it settles into a lovely cruising car whilst the torque around town is great to play with.

It seems that it may have been remapped at some point (found a receipt from a remap company stating 225bhp!) but the local Volvo dealer helpfully removed when they serviced it for me - something that they didn't tell me before hand.

They also increased the prices they quoted over the phone by almost £200 when I came to pay and when it says 'screenwash' on the receipt it's actually for consumables like rags. It also appears that the free health check that covers all of the 'wear and tear' items are different to the 'wear and tear' items they check as part of a service (so they charge you for that)... I did email and it was intercepted (sic) by their after sales manager who was going to call 2 weeks ago.

As a result, my foray into Volvo ownership has been somewhat soured and frustrating

Anyway, I'm still enjoying the (slightly reduced) power, it's now very linear, it makes a nice noise but the turning circle is pretty huge..!

Be careful with oil level. The D5 lump doesn't like being past 3/4 mark (IIRC).
