Nathan Ake for 35m? Seems an ok price for an experienced Prem defender.

If it goes through it’ll be a good signing, he’s an experienced PL player so doesn’t need time to adapt.
He’s always looked good when ever I’ve see him, but what do I know.

Is he really any better than what you have now though?!

I think it's hard to tell when you're in a relegation threatened or relegated team. Robertson and Jonny Evans both came from relegated teams and are both fantastic players. Even Harry Maguire came from a relegated team and he's a slightly better than average playerbiggrin

If he wasn't going Man City, I'd love to have him here as our 3rd CB when we go 3 at the back, he'd be perfect.

I agree, for a top six team he's great to have as a second or third choice CB, but it seems, other than Laporte, City have several second or third choice CBs.

Several?... that’s about 7 isn’t it? Don’t forget some of City’s defence & Midfield getting on a bit now, they’ve been doing the biz for a decade now, I’m sure we might have to part with a couple of £M. It’s about time City had a Prem.league Record signing in the side. yessmile

Don't think Ake is that good, not quite the signing I would be expecting to sort the defence out. Chelsea have a buy back clause apparently and if he was anywhere decent surely they would have him back.

Who have you got as CBs? Stones, Laporte and Otamendi? Obviously Fernandinho has played there loads this season.

Think Ake also counts as homegrown for the Uefa quota, whether or not that makes a difference (not sure how many you currently have in the squad).

Got the young lad Garcia also whose played a bit. Think Barcelona were interested recently.

This sums up my my thoughts on the aftermath of the CAS ruling pretty well - it seems like 90% of football and the media thinks we should've taken our punishment even though the charges were baseless.

+1, a good write up which I certainly believe to be true after seeing it, reading it and hearing it over the last week.
I particularly agree with the last line.

Excellent article for me it was just like the VW emissions scandal in a way the difference was none of the other manufacturers went after them because they knew they were at it too!
Im still not convinced entirely City did much wrong as the idea of investing for post career rather than paying everything to a bunch of extremely talented but ultimately immature individuals appears sound to me in fact I wish someone had done it for me .........Hmmm I wonder if that is where a lot of this comes from pure jealousy ?

Baseless ? Most of the allegations were ruled out because they were ‘time barred’ according to the report ,its equivalent to a guilty party getting off because the police didn’t have a valid search warrant despite finding drugs .

You've just made that first statement up and kind of proved my point about prejudging us as guilty. Until the full CAS ruling is released we don't know the details. Some allegations were time barred, some baseless. What the media release actually said is:

"The CAS award emphasized that most of the alleged breaches reported by the Adjudicatory Chamber
of the CFCB were either not established or time-barred"

https://www.tas-cas.org/fileadmin/user_upload/CAS_...

There is also some speculation that the time barred allegations date back to before the punishment (£49m fine and transfer cap) we received in 2014 and UEFA have been trying to get two bites at the cherry.

To use your analogy, it's equivalent to a "guilty" party getting off because the police didn’t have a valid search warrant despite finding drugs that they planted at the home of a former drug dealer.

Not established does not mean baseless. It means you didn't cooperate with UEFAs investigation and therefore they could not conclusively prove you were guilty. This does not mean baseless.

As jammy said ,not established does not mean baseless,in this case it very possibly means the proof was illegally obtained hence my correct analogy .
Furthermore no ruling can hide from anyone with half a brain what has happened, the owner of a club using companies he controls to circumvent the rules, city would never have got such deals under normal circumstances.

Timebarred allegations doesn’t mean they were true. It means the allegations weren’t considered as they were not in the allowed period for breeches.
Really the last couple of posts from people who think they know the truth despite not being involved in the hearings sort of proves the point.

You only have to look at the facts of the matter to know City broke the rules. The ridiculous amount that, Abu Dhabi owned, Emirates Airlines payed for sponsorship to, Abu Dhabi owned, Many City was way over the market value at the time. You really don't need to have read emails or studied the accounts to know that.

Man City are essentially OJ Simpson. Everyone knows you broke the rules. You just managed to get off on a technicality.

Could Mr Scrump kindly ammend the thread title? City's biggest victory in the 2019/20 season was in Court.

Ok Jammy, if you’ve read all the documents, were at meetings and know all the legal ins and outs and are legally qualified to understand them, then I apologise.
If you’re basing your opinion on the back pages of some rag and what some bloke down the pub told you then you’ll understand if I put this in the bks box.
