I was happy with our defence -apart from Harry’s strangle hold on azpilicueta!!
How on earth was that not a penalty?
The same way the trip on rashford wasn’t.

The Rashford connection and the full Nelson can't really be discussed in the same sentence in football terms, but now we have WFE - World Football Entertainment - it's all in the hands of some shadowy characters and a whirly wheel at Stockley Park.
I watched the whole Argyle game intently yesterday, dipped in and out of the Utd-Chelsea game and went and watched that Dancing programme with the wife rather than watch any more of the Liverpool game . Just shows how elite football is going to the dogs.

Well, they can be discussed in the same sentence as they were both penalties.

Well, the current entertainment rules state that both should be penalties but only a couple of years ago the Rashford incident wouldn't have been anywhere near a penalty. As I say though, the latest set of rules make everything, anything and nothing a penalty.

I actually think the opposite ,a trip in the penalty area has always been a penalty ,a bit of manhandling at corners was always allowed .

I agree about the current rules though

All that VAR has exposed is that most people don’t think any old foul in the box is enough for a penalty. The rule is the problem for them, not VAR.

Maguire needs to work harder at the art of making marking in the box not look like rough sex.

Like most of this stuff, VAR as a technology isn't inherently bad. The problem is that it's just st referees all the way down.

The decision making is down to mike riley and David ellery who have the senior roles at PMGOL and IFAB. Neither forward thinking enough to adjust the rules to the strengths of the technology. A mistake 50% of companies make when rolling out a new software system designed to improve a process.

Other counties are getting it right. It’s the Riley/ellery link that’s destroying The game in the premier league. They were hardly models of common sense refereeing when on the pitch. It’s a shambles now because they still stubbornly but predictably refuse to change. Couple of charlatans given the impact they are having on the game and the change that could be possible.

The referees aren't the ones fking up the rule changes though are they? st or not, they are not helped by a new interpretation of the laws on a monthly basis.
Remember when Platini had the idea of making football more entertaining by either making the game non contact or making the goals bigger? This is what they are doing now; trying to make the game more entertaining and therefore more wringable of cash. They are fking football over.

Weird feeling isn’t it? wink A proper born and lives in Manchester Manc as well! Hang your head!

I’ve had reason to research this recently and the more you read the worse it gets. I am stunned there isn’t more in the media. It would improve overnight if referees were held to account in the same way managers and players are post game. Acknowledging mistakes and analysis of why they are made shouldn’t be the current closed shop it is and it would accelerate change and improvement.

Sadly football administrators in this country are largely clowns and fking old incapable of changing clowns. I assume Jim Davidson or similar does their Xmas dinner entertainment they are that out of touch with those that play and enjoy the game right now.

Closing in on the Champions league game.

Going to a tough one but sure we need to now think about the busy schedule and maybe rest key players!?

Cavani and Greenwood up front...

DVB Pogba and mata/matic?
Maybe same back 5 as last week??

We've actually lots of options team wise and formation wise. It's a case of working out what fits and based round Bruno as captain for me plus a solid defence.
We can mess about more in the fa cup and (league) cups to give second string players a crack. Champions league and prem first team need to gel and settle on a good system.

We do indeed. But we do have 4 games in 10 days so I would like to see some rested. We have put 2 teams out that I didn't like the look of so far and got good results.

We seen how burnt out Bruno was after last seasons finale and the start of this season is just as crammed in. DVB has to start and James has to be dropped.

Bruno should be rested ,but he strikes me as the sort who insists on playing every game.
Vdb has to start surely ?

Thoughts tonight chaps? Not going to be easy by any stretch but I think we might just have enough to beat them 1-0.

Team for me:

DDG

AWB Tuanzebe Maguire Lindelof Telles

Fred VdB

Bruno

Cavani Rashford

I’d probably rest Rashford and play Greenwood tbh. He is less wasteful ... Cavani and Greenwood’s lethal goal threat is exciting! Maybe even Throw mata in and take off Maguire

I'd go same team but mc tominay instead of dvb. Mctominay was in the press conference so likely to start.
