If I was a Utd fan (perish the thought) - I'd probably still be backing him as a former player and would want him to do well, but from an outsider's view, what in his previous managerial experience and results convinced the Utd hierarchy to give him the job permanently? That unbeaten run and the win in France?

He was only ever supposed to be 'caretaker' manager, after all.

Time (and money) will tell though. Needs to ship out a few more and get some decent replacements. But will they want to even come?

Last year you had 20 points by this time, he's spent 145m shifted a few out who didn't suit and your 7 points worse off...

Brighton new manager is on 15
Leicesters new manager 25
Newly promoted sheff utd 16

Rodgers spent big with 90m and you are seeing instant results, at the start of the season I bet if you did a Leicester and UTD 11 most would have weighted it in uniteds favour.

How long do you think he will get before he feels pressure, surely he has to have a target of top 6 this year so if you finished 8th do you think he would be manager next year? (considering your owners and money)

If his appointment signalled a very different approach to the Maureen era with the instant success and the promotion of more youth team players, mixed in with some bigger name signings, then he HAS to be given the time to see it through. Two more windows for sure. If a year from now Utd are still mid-table with no significant signs of improvement then he'll be gone. But then who comes after that?

However, if Spurs are not going to finish top four, the Levy Experiment fails, and Poch leaves the White Hart Elephant, then end of the season and Ole will be gone.

I don’t think the club will be that patient. I think he’ll be gone by Christmas at this rate.

There’s no hiding from the fact the team has gone from bad to worse.

I’m behind him, but we’re in a very bad place.

He certainly has a huge amount of support outside of the Utd fanbase. In fact he's probably the most supported manager in the Premier League right now.

His permanent appointment did. Well i think so. Signal a different approach that is. If as as you state we are still here this time next year then he will be under pressure. But that’s football. It’s also only 2 more transfer windows but the united fan in me hopes that’ll be enough. If not he will have restored a lot of the United I’ve grown up with and undone recent damage in the coaching set up.

There are huge changes behind the scenes that take a while kick in but if Ole delivers he’ll benefit. If not I’m happy to give him this season and next winning nothing while we keep doing the improvements to compete again.

The thing I don't see is passion. He's not like that I know but surely the passion that many of the newer managers bring to the Prem filters down through the team.

I could slap some of the team for their lack of it. They have so much skill and yet seem so bloody casual about things at times. Basic stuff like throw ins where our players are so busy dawdling back to a random position that the opposition have taken a quick and unchallenged throw and are away. This is so so basic. How come no-one seems bothered? Rooney and Beckham always had that 'play like your life depended on it' mentality but non of the current team do, with the possible exception of Young.

Young gives his all, as does Mctominay. I find it hard to criticise James and Rashford. But you’re right on the rest. Small signs of things improving but there’s along way to go.

I agree on those 4. They give their all.

But I do think ability is as much of a problem as application. Many of our players are simply not very good at football.

Lingard has been terrible for ages now.
Fred is a distinctly average player.
Pereira shows flashes but won’t make it.
Mata is so slow and weak that he’s basically unplayable.
Wan Bissaka is a good defender but fairly poor wing back.
Young is terrible.

I could go on. Aside from our centre backs and keepers, we are average in every position. The league table isnt telling lies.

All that said, the squad is good enough to do a lot better if it ‘clicks’. We have enough good players to win games. So far we have not really turned up, just like Spurs.

I get the feeling Ole was always a 2-3 season manager, with the goal to clean out the squad, and bring through youth into the side. The signings in the summer show the way the club wants to go forward, and its plain to see that we are thin in terms of squad and still lacking in certain areas. He needs the Jan window, and summer to bring in the players he and the club want.

I suspect the board thought the goodwill Ole has with the fans will help avoid the animosity from the fans while the results havent been good.

We some quality in midfield, and another striker in Jan and lets see how the rest of the season goes.

That’s pretty much where I am. Goodwill gets ole time no one else currently would. We need time.

If Ole knows Brut Haaland as well as reported then he should be doing all he can to bring him to United. He’s proving already what a class act he is!

Ole won the title twice and the Norwegian fa cup once in his first spell at Molde. But it is easier of course to reference a 2 minute YouTube video.

Poor wind up. But thanks for dropping in.

More new kids in the squad and lindelof now added to the lengthy injury list.
